Done a search and havnt found anything yet.
But I need some advise on Goodyear Eagle F1's.

First I've got the F1's pre-Asymetrics all round.
I need two new rears and also I need to change one of my fronts due to a slow puncture.
The front change is OK as I've got a spare
But I've checked and dont fancy putting asymetrics on the back with the older design on the front.
The Eagle F1 GSDR's look like my older ones but are they the same or OK to use.

Or should I start all over again and get 4 new and if so what ?
I had Toyo T1's on my MK1 Tuscan but they were on 16" and I didnt like them compared to the Goodyear.

???????? confused ????????

Hi Rens,

Didnt want to change all if not necessary. Would end up with 2 spare F1's for the front but interested in these Toyo's.
What are they like for every day rain or shine driving ?
Not interested in track but touring West European countries.

But still wondering what the difference is between my F1's and the GDR3's.

Thanks,
Tony.

Old ones.

I have T1s all round on mine im carefull in the wet but i assume everyone is no matter what tyre they use and i have no problems yet.
They are 7 years old as well and on 18' wheels car has low milage i will replace them at the end of the year purely for age reasons.
I also had them on my chim.

I had 16" T1's on my Mk1 Tuscan before I changed to the F1's.
I said I would never go back to T1's but to be fair I didnt have the geometry and shocks done intil after I had changed to 18" wheels with the F1's.

Yes, I agree about being careful in the wet no matter what.

What was so wrong with them?

Tram lining and dodgy in the dry and very scary in the wet but like I say that was pre-geo, shocks etc. and so most probably nothing to do with the tyres but its put me off them.

Sounds a bit soft but up until till then I had never tried Toyo's so was keen to try them and then dissapointed with the result and so now reluctant to go back.

Have to admit I contradict myself but that doesnt quite over come my reluctance to go back.

So, back on the tyres, this was the thread I was looking for and it pretty much sums this topic up for me. Its appears to be all a matter of personal taste and experience for your own car.
Rens says R1R's but not clear they are available and additionally I dont want a set of winter tyres where as Rens I think you have.
Still dont know if the GY F1 GSD3's will match with my existing F1 fronts but look the same but then will only accept the German made ones.
Just been recommended Yokohama's but never had any experience with them.
Vredestein's ???

One point made was not to go for these cheep makes even if they share the technology of a better know brand but to me isnt that more honest than GY selling Chinese tyres with their original name when the quality was easily different even for me to spot.
Dont have an issue with Chinese made goods but in some cases quality is not the same for better or worse. confused

I may be a bit confused with your question but by the looks of it you've got GSD3s on the front already? If you can still get a pair of rear GSD3s in the right size, maybe easier to do that and then swap all four next time.

Thanks for the replies.

Basil you've hit the nail on the head.
I thought my fronts were pre-GSD3's and I didnt know if they would be OK just dropping GSD3's on the back. But from pictures on the internet, they look just the same so I'm going to go with that so long as they are German made.
Yes, I would like to try Toyo's again in the future but for........

Oil, thats a good point, what do you use ? biggrin

Thanks again,
Tony.

Just My 2ps but I would never put the old F1's on any car now. You just have to look at the design of them. In the wet the water has no where to exit the tyre so you end up aqua planing. When you look at the V pattern on a Toyo it has an " exit band" for the water and with my tuscan set up on Gaz adj have never had any problem in the wet. My Dad has a DB7 and had the exact same problems with old Goodyear F1's and replaced them with some sort of Dunlops and is now an easyish car to drive.

My supra was running 275/35/18's. Pushing around 400bhp out and was fine in the wet no problems at all. Ok it weighed around 480kg more than the Tuscan but had much wider tyres.

Thanks for all the advise.
I've located 2 GSD3's for the rear and thats what I'm getting (confirmed German).

Its amazing how different the experiences and likes / dislikes are when it comes to tyres.
Appreciate all the feedback and shall consider a change all round in about 2 years from now.

Tony.

I was told by a pirelli certified centre that the F1 GSD3s could sometimes have a problem in that they could go out of round, apparantly the assymetric version was produced to counter this problem by retaining a stronger tread pattern at the edge of the tyre.
Personally never had a problem in that respect with the GSD3s but did find they tramlined a lot when they were wearing down on the several sets I went through. Then I got the Sag which had GSD3s on the front and assymetrics on the back, felt like the car was in 2 halves but was cured by fitting assymetrics to the front.Had a similar problem on the other halfs Bimmer when the fronts were changed for a latter version of Bridgestone.Amazing how having different versions of quality tyres on the front and rear can make so much difference.

Well dont know if this "out of round" is as my made in China F1's but there was a definate distortion and lifting of the pattern. Hence must be the German ones as per my fronts.

Out of round was not perhaps a very good description but it does sound as if there was a problem.
