Wheel refurb

Found a local spray shop that will refurb all 4 wheels for £250. While showing the guy, it was noticed that the nearside rear has a ding in it, which seems to be right across the wheel on both "lips", no doubt one of our illustriuos potholes. Can't feel it while driving, so it must be balanced out. Am I right in thinking this is relatively common as the alloy is so soft?

Also how do I tell a rear wheel from a front wheel once the tyres are off?

If you have had your wheels done, did you just suck up the expense of getting the tyres taken off/put back on and balanced, or am I missing a trick?

When I had mine done, I drove the car in at 8am and drove it out at 5pm, and the work had been completed. Tyres removed and re-fitted/balanced as part of it.

Probably not the most cost effective (£300 ish) but worked for me.

Rear wheels will be wider than fronts. I understand that the spiders are quite prone to damage.

I bought a brand new set from the guy that sells them for £500 a set on Ebay (I got him on a good day paid less by offering cash and collection!!)
He is based in Southend and may be worth considering if your wheels are out of sorts. I believe he bought all the remaining stock from the manufacturers (Racing Dynamics?) and has done a good trade at the price.
Mine were in good enough nick with maybe a little minor cubing but I decided to treat myself as I was replacing the crappy Avon ZZ3s.

'Front' or 'rear' should be cast on the inside of the wheel somewhere, I think it's on one of the spokes or the hud!. I've a 'spare' front sat in the garage with a flat-spot caused by a pot-hole and i'll check where it's marked. These wheels can be repaired if the damage isn't too bad but mine is right on the valve and is scrap (but too nice and shiny to throw away..lol).

Cheers all. I've just taken the hit and bought a new set of 4 from that bloke on ebay, he says the offsets are stamped on the inside somewhere. Still not sure what I'll do with the old ones yet. Maybe keep 4 spares.

I sold mine on ebay for just less than I paid for the new ones!;)
