radio reception

David Beer (Mod-wise) does a very good amplifier kit. Details here: http://www.djbeer.hostingbt.com/id31.html
In the Mk1 the aerial is in one of the front wings I believe, a place that must be prone to interference. I suggest you have a chat with Carl Baker of Car & Bike Installations. He may be a fair few miles away from you, but he is the specialist for all things related to audio and alarms in TVRs and I'm sure he has dealt with this before. Do a search on this forum for his name and you will see that he knows his stuff.
Reception in my car used to be rubbish as well and that was with an aerial mounted on the boot lid. You'd think that simply replacing the aerial stick can't make much difference, but after Carl replaced mine (with a Hirschmann) the number of stations the radio could pick up more or less doubled!
