The flock on my drivers door card has started to wear so I was thinking of covering with Alcantara (the car has a full hide interior). My plan is to first sand off the flock, use spray adhesive to attached a thin sheet of automotive foam (for a soft feel) and then use spray adhesive again to fit alcantara on top.

Has anyone done this?
Is it difficult?
Any pics?

Cheers

The full hide option does not have flock in the doors.
Mine does. the flock on the doors is fine, but the flock on the mirror control was almost gone. I had it reflocked but that was done very badly. I have removed the flock and sprayed it in the color of the car. I am considering having it flocked by a renowned company like this:

Keep us posted of your results please.

Mine is definately full hide and has flock on the doors, hide on the door pockets. It is around the mirror controls where the flock is worn

I have flocking on my door panels and roof lining and have the same problem as you and also plan on covering with alcantara, just trying to find the right colour! But i'm also looking into getting the door card reflocked as i'm a sucker for originality. Mr C

Colour for me is easy. Black as that is the colour of the flocking

I did this a few years ago when I had my Tuscan, I did the drivers side then got a car upholsterer to do the removable roof panel and the drivers door and the two rear panels hiding the seatbelt pully (the one with the rear speakers in ).
Removing the door cards were easy as long as you have a long allan key as the slots are at the bottom of the door pocket, once the door card is off it is quiet straight forward to remove the triming such as door pocket and upper trim. I bought black alcantara and cut it to size then attached using a spray adhesive nothing to difficult but I just decided to get an upholster to do the other items(I removed them from the car and refitted them once trimmed) as I just did not have the time to do the other items or couldn't be arsed can't remember. It wasn't expensive getting a good upholsterer to fix the alcantara to the other items either so worth concidering.

I'll dig up a few pictures so you can see a before and after of my effort on my old Tuscan.

early cars had flock, then TVR changed it to alcantara. Full hide option was only the leather nothing to do with flock or alcantara.

Pictures would be great, thanks. Its only the doors and roof on mine that are flock, the rest is leather. Did you sand off the old flock before using the spray adhesive?

I had the flock door card coverings replaced with Ambla on my MK1 Tuscan:-

Looked much better than the flock IMO and harder wearing.

I have a full leather option in the MK2/3 and the door cards are also done in leather, although this was by special request.

ooh that looks nice, was it easy to colour match? My flock is very light blue and has carpet glue stains on it and water marks so want it changed.

The door cards were covered as per the majority of the interior in Portland grey so very easy to match, also the work was carried out at the factory while the car was in for a service there.D & C trim maybe able to supply the correct match for yours.

I'd like to recover my door cards, roof lining and rear speaker surrounds with Alcantara because I don't like the nasty green flock plus it's looking quite tatty.

To the people who have done this, did you just sand off the flock and stick it on with glue? Or as the OP said he'd do, is it worth sticking a thin layer of foam on first?

I had trouble sanding off, so opted to cover over but I have a low attention span and the speaker panel is very thin.

Well as the Bishop said to the nubile actress when caught with his trousers down - "Lets get the flock out of here!"

Oh dear!
