Connecting to the software

I am having a problem, I have finally got a laptop, loaded with the software and bought a USB to serial converter from Maplins. I changed the port to com1 and can now I can connect to the car, get the fault screen etc but the connection keeps cutting out every few seconds, all the port settings are the same as the PC which connected fine, I'm wondering if it could be an anti-virus problem?

I have the same problem. Are you using Windows Vista?

I have been told that it could be this but havent found a solution to the problem.

Can someone let me know where I get the software from to access all the faults on the car, I have a laptop and its on XP.

Also can someone post a picture of the connector I need to get from Maplins as the make model etc will mean didly squat to me!

Hi John, I've just ordered another usb to serial converter from ebay to see if that is any different with the problems, I'll let you know if it works.

So i open the link up and am facing the tuscan.co.uk website, I then click on the TVR speed 6 ECU Diagnostics Software which opens up a window whic asks me to either open save or cancel, I save it to my desktop and it is sitting there in a ZIP file, is this correct, will only open when its connected to a car??

Unzip the file too your desktop, then you will have the folder sitting there with the program in. Once you have that you can go in a click the application which is named something like ECUDIAS.exe this will open the software.

When you close the software hold down ctrl and F5 at the same time or it will log you off the laptop.

by the way where does the cable plug into the car???????

Hey!

You have to take the main bonnet off. I think the plug is on the top left side...

Can I ask you a favour? When you do find the plug socket, please could you take a picture of where it is and email it to me? I can get it added to the FAQ site!

I have the same prob with cutting out after say 15 secs. Also running Vista.

It'd be good to somehow link up a permanent display to it and have a screen installed that you could constantly monitor the ECU, etc. Maybe attached to one of those popup LCD screen head unit things!

So where is the connector? I've heard in the bonnet, under the passenger side, under the drivers side? Pics please!

My day job is that of IT specialist working on all kinds of software and hardware. I have over 30 years experience, designing all kinds of software and hardware solutions.

The trouble will no doubt be Vista. One of the big issues with Vista is that a lot of drivers that worked with XP, especially things like USB drivers, need to be re-written for Vista. You will therefore need to use an XP machine at present.

I specialise in writing software for handheld computers (PDAs), which could be used to display the diagnostic screens in the cabin and also run your GPS. They do not have a USB port and would need a new interface developed. It won't be easy though.

If anyone knows who designed the interface and software originally I can contact them and try and move things forward if you like?

I thought they were all under the steering column on speed 6 T cars as that's where the ECU is (well behind and above the pedals)

That's an awesome idea. I could link it up to my mobile PDA running Windows Pocket PC OS which has a USB port.

ETA - I've just emailed MBE Systems; they appear to be the ones that developed the software in 1997. I'll post up any responses I get and maybe we can get something put together!

This sounds like a great move forward. If anyone has used the software, can you let me know what can be done with it? what parameters can be changed/checked?
