Anyone recommend someone in the London/Croydon area for charging up Air-con gas?

Cheers...

Can't recommend anyone in your area but just make double sure that you don't have a leak.

I had a leak and ended up having it re-gassed twice - Second time was once I'd found that the compressor was damaged and leaking and had it replaced.

Mine has failed again now though so no idea what's going on with it at the moment.

(Shortlad) Thanks for sharing that with me!
How did you know what was going on?
Are there any tell tell signs?

Cheers

Most places do a leak check where they shove in some blue dye and look for it coming out.

If it isn't leaking, then you have had the air con regassed anyway. - This is often the most economical way of doing it.

I think the place I took mine to did the same thing as when I went to pick it up and he said bad news you have a leak, your compressor is leaking.

I replaced the compressor and took it back to be gassed and (if I remember correctly) he only charged me once.

I assume he leak tests as he charges it and stops if he sees a leak.

does 50 quid for a re-gas sound about right? A local garage is charging this - no VAT either (all legit I hasten to add).

Hi, Thanks for that!

Can you confirm who that is? I would like to take it there.

The garage is based in Welwyn Garden City, Herts - so if you don't mind a drive...

the chap is Bob Powdrill and his tel no. is 01707 334071 (14 Little Ridge, AL7 2BH for you sat navers). You may want to check his price - everything seems to have gone up in price recently so he may be asking a bit extra. It's a tiny garage but he apparently runs it as a hobby for his retirement, hence his turnover is low enough not to be subject to VAT - well at least that was the case when I used him last year. I'll be taking my Tuscan to him soon.
