New roof (mk 1) - what to do with the inside??

A while ago my roof flew off (pretty dramatic!) I have sourced a new, unpainted, one nad am looking at getting it sorted.

Outside is easy - paint and get rubber strips.
Inside....not sure - the original has what I belive is a spray on surface. Is this easy to get hold of?

I was also considering getting it leather covered but am unsure what I would do with the edges....

Anyone done this?

Also the roof I have is slightly different that my old one (which was original early mk1 1) - I', assuming its updated (side panels now integral as opped to stuck on).

Can I expect my new roof to be a better fit - or even to go into my boot easier (old one is a bugger and invloved pushing it through rubber boot seal to get it in)

Yes please - close up of the edges if you can please. I assume you didnt do this yourself?

Have you fitted your new roof yet, why? because I have also replaced my MK1 roof as the passenger side strip blew off on the motorway, so bought a later one with the side strips already on. But the new roof doesnt fit exactly as its a few mmm out on one side, so be careful.

Fits in the boot thou, I just need to get the new roof
sprayed.

May I ask how your roof come off in the first place?

Was the internal clip not connected? or was there a fault with it?

Ohh errr....not attempted to fit roof yet - hope it goes on Ok.

As for roof story - Car went in for a service. Picked it up, driving home roof lifted up, smacked me round the head, and disappeared into the undergrowth. I had to take the next day off and spent 4 hours upto my knees in water looking for it! Further inspection showed one of the rear clip levers was not locked. Mine is an early Mk 1 and there was no front clip fitted.

Moral of the story - check all clips when the car has been out of your hands and get the front clip fitted (I have £90 of component parts waiting to be fitted to my new roof). I'm also going to investigate some safety mechanism for the rear release handles - even ifs its just some elastics holding them in place.

While we're on roof panels, can anyone tell me (or show pic?) how the window seal should look with roof on and windows up?
I seem to have two different rubbers on my roof - neither seems to seal perfect (do any?) and one seems too big and sticks out too far above window!
Where are these sourced?

I had my roof and doors trimmed in leather to match the rest of the car. Looks great - will try and take some pics.

Depending upon your colour scheme you could opt for flocking. Not as nice as alcantara in my opinion but sprays on so no wrinkles.

Is this the stuff that is on originally?

Any ideas how much it would cost to get my roof done? How do I find a 'flocker'?!
