Tyre sizes 225 or 255 on the front??? Tramlining???

Hi all,

Since we (the Dutch TVRCC) will leave for our annual Schotlandtrip this wednesday, i am considering upgrading my front tyres to 255 Toyo's because i don't like the "look" of the 225's (the wheel looks to wide for the tyre)on the front axle. However I really like the balance and the ride now.

I know all "modern" TVRs have 255 all round (i have a 2000 Tusc Mk1) and i think for example a T350 has the better ride, but i am worried about tramlining.

the geometry is already changed to newest spec and i have Gaz Golds fitted.

what do you guys recommend?

doesnt mention tramling but interesting reading halfway down about mixed makes, fron to rear...

I already read that thread, but since I already have Toyo T1R's on the back as well i won't have two different makes.

Actually i think i didn't even do more than 1000 miles on the T1R's in the front, so they are still brand new, but i just don't like the look and i regret not havin done it right when buying 4 new tyres a few months ago.

I changed from 255s to 225s based on Ben Langs advice, and I think they drive a lot better...All TVR Press cars used to get 225s put on them, I think 255s are for people who like the look of big fat tyres but doesn't bother me especially on the front. I've 255s on the rear.

Thanks for your reactions so far. I am no car Mechanic, but almost all performance cars seem to have wider rear than front tires. what i could also do is putting my almost new 255's to the front and put 275's on the back.

Never heard of 275 on a Tuscan..I think they may foul something..I just stick with what the Suspension Designer tells me....225s on the front and 255s on the rear.

I have 255 Good Year Eagles allround and the GAZ suspensions as well.
Besides the right geometry setting, it seems to be significantly important to have the right tyre pressures (1,8 bar front + 1,9 bar rear) to avoid "tramlining" at high speeds (on the German Autobahn ;-)). Even temperatures (better on hot days/ with hot tyres) seem to have an impact.

ok, i will for this trip let the designers have the last word, stick to the original and let the handling prevail over the looks....
