Anyone who's considering putting their tuscan up for sale, and if it's in "Very Good Condition"........Drop me an e-mail. I'm in a position to purchase NOW (Circa £16k - £18k). At the moment there's only one that hits all the right buttons in the Classifieds section, but unfortunately it's "just" over what I can afford http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/673278.htm. But lets see how the next couple of weeks overtime goes.......LOL.

I would save for a little bit longer and wait untill dec/jan when the market is on the floor. Dont forget you only get what you pay for, always get a rebuilt car, or from 2003 onwards, as you will have to have a very big bank balance for worn out bits. IMOA... All the best on your search........

Is there a slight drop in prices over/coming towards the winter ??? or is it that there are just more cars to choose from on the market once the summer is over.
Don't mind waiting for the right car, I know about the engines/rebuilt engines/2003 cars, so I'm bearing that in mind with any purchase.

I agree with Gordon, the TVR market is very unstable at the moment, like lots of other markets! Nice Tuscan... but, and a big but, what will put most people off that car is, rightly or wrongly, (it could be a long thread!!)

I have sold two TVRs (Chim and Tuscan) in the good times over the last 6 years and it was hard work then.
My advice is if you really like that car? Go look, try and take a second opinion with you, preferably with a bit off Speed 6 experience, and if all is well make an offer, because as sure as eggs is eggs he probably won`t be getting a Que at the door. All IMO of course.

I was looking at that car in particular as it's advertised as a 2003 car, so I was expecting the engine to be (relatively) ok as "it should have been built with the later engine changes"......Shouldn't It ?????

nice looking car and its a good sign that the owner has spent lots on it (nitros etc). haveing seen the colour in the flesh, it is very striking, but an aquired taste.
from personal experiance always keep a fighting fund, incase the engine goes or clutch etc, on top of the £3k annual running costs (service, tyres + bits)
as for 2003, you'd hope the engine was more robust,but its pot luck, there is a thread on here with a 2005 tuscan blowing its head gasket.
it may be wisest to wait until January to buy...... but that'll take some will power! one and i guarentee with in a week you'll have one on your drive

Custardkid : Thanks for the info........yep, the guy appears to have spent alot on the car, so hoping that it's what it appears. Know what you mean about will-power........don't think I'll be able to hold out till christmas.....LOL, but understand the reasoning behind the theory (Sports Cars are Cheaper in the winter).

Just thought I would put my 2 cents worth in. I know the pitfalls of the speed 6 but I own a 2000 W reg Tuscan and in the last 8 months have now done 8000 miles with very few problems and have had no engine rebuild. (now reading 30000 miles). I have had to replace the slave cylinder but apart from that just a few niggles.
I know I will need an engine rebuild at some point ( really considering either the new racing green one if it all works out or a Wilder) but my point is I paid £16000 and have had a lot of fun. Now I have had the chance to save some more money up to upgrade it in my way. However maybe I have been lucky with my engine.

Indeed a Tuscan of any year depending on how it has been looked after and importantly who serviced it will be representative of it's condition and reliability.
There is no reason why an early Tuscan that has been well cared for and serviced and updated correctly over the years should not be completely reliable.
The chassis for me would be the biggest concern on an early car, taking into account it's had an engine rebuild of course

You wouldn't believe it...I own the only Nebula Blue Tuscan S and moved from working in Portsmouth 10 days ago!! If the cars oily bits are sound,my 2003 engine had let go, due to abuse and zero warming and been replaced by a 2005 spec engine. Don't be put off by the colour, it looks amazing in sunlight or street light at night, and yet on a normal English summer day it apears flat blue.
Where ever the car is, the colour always gets praise, to my knowledge there is a 3.6l in the Bristol area and a T350 in this colour, the only other one was stolen and destroyed. One word of warning...the paint is only availiable from "Gerbil" the TVR paint guru....and at £400 plus for half a litre, thats one expensive touch up!! That said it is completly blendable. The fibreglass cracked in the centre of my bonnet, it was corrected at Dulfords and only an area the size of a dinner plate required painting.
The car you are looking at, I believe has some service previous history with Racing Green, may be worth a trip up to speak to Martain in the service departments. I too bought mine in the winter, 20th December 06 at a reduced price due to season, colour and probably the unfortunate events at the factory.

Nick : Wish I'd known earlier, could have got together and you could have given me some tips..........I'm on holiday next week, so intend to do the rounds of the cars I'm interested in. So far there are four which are within budged, and appear to ring the right bells. So any additional advice is welcome before I'm thrown to the lions (Sellers)............LOL

I don't work in Portsmouth anymore..I too am still serving!! and now work at Yeovilton.....there are various buyers guides around, and the Hampshire TVR Car Club have some veteran Tuscan owners. Join the club and attend one of there meetings, it's the best way to learn.Have to arrange a meet. Not my home town, but I was in the forces, and just ended up settling here.
