new boy needing some advice

i know many people have said check this thread etc but i would like some advice, im about to buy a tuscan 2000 with 32000 miles on the clock and a full tvr service history, just wondering what advice is out there, am i doing the right thing? am i going to need to shell out a fortune on engine work as soon as i pick it up? any thoughts?
It really seems to be hit and miss, rule of thumb seems to be that if its had an engine rebuild in or later than 2004 then it should be ok for quite some time as many of the parts were changed. Have you had Rob Ingleby or someone look over it for you? Although mine has (touch wood) no engine issues I have had to shell out over £3k in 3 months on a 12k mile service. OK this did include some racing reds, brakes, engine mounts, new door ecu and my dash being taken apart to fix a vibration.
However there is nothing like the thrill or the noise! I was worried that the Speed 6 wouldnt sound as good as my Dad's Griff but I was sooo wrong as soon as you start winding it up its like the devil himself is screaming down the pipes in an effort to get out!

In my opinion, I would not buy a pre-2004 speed 6 engined TVR that has not had a rebuild post 2006.
Also, I would be looking to make sure there has been a new clutch if more than 20,000 on the clock as a rough rule of thumb.
There are of course exceptions, and there are a number of members on here who have 30k plus on their cars with no rebuild and no new clutch.

If you can get a TVR expert to check over your car, then do so.
However, i bought mine, on my own, in June this year, also it is a 2000 Tuscan 4.0, now done 22,000ms, no rebuild, no clutch, it does have Gaz Golds on, which are a huge improvement in handling.
I had it checked over after i bought it!! by a TVR specialist, and he confirmed my thoughts, that it is a "goon un for an early un", with excellent Oil pressure etc.
I have a background in mechanics etc, so do know what to look out for, but, i am not a TVR specialist, but am learning fast!
Be careful, driving it is a Class A drug!

Best advice I could give would be buy with your head not your heart. Plenty of cars may look great but in reality could cost you a lot of money. Most of the advice that has been given here with regards to engine rebuilds and clutches are a good starter for ten.
I bought one in January this year, only 17k on the clock, rebuild 13k previous, new slave cylinder a year ago, 1500 miles and full service history. Ran great so I spent my money.
Car is a hoot, love it.
Cost me £1100 so far including it's service, dash repair, new tyre and throttle cable.
Clutch went 3 weeks ago, not sure if it is the clutch or slave cylinder again but that's another £500 to £1000.
Basically, i love the car but it costs me money. Still wouldn't sell it. I bought it with the right amount of work done but you can't guarantee it won't break. If it does, just smile, count to ten and get the credit card out again.
