Alarm questions for 2000 Tuscan

When I press the key fob to lock the doors some times to alarm beeps twice, other times it doesn't. I can't figure out why. Any ideas?

On my Mk1, the alarm will beep 4 times if I lock the doors within 4-5 seconds of shutting a door. If I lock it after this time period, no beeps. Am sure you are going to now get a multitude of different answers!

I thought it might be something to do with the central locking button on the dashboard, but it wasn't.

I agree with Mustang Baz, if I lock the car after about 8 seconds then I only get the hazards flash.

that's all it is guys - a timer within the immobiliser/door close circuits. TADTS...

Hi, it's quite normal and relates to whether the alarm is arming whilst the iterior light is still illuminated. If it is, then the system senses the voltage drop and 'beeps' when arming, if the interior light is switched off, or has extinguished, then there are no 'beeps'.

Just for clarity, the previous answers are correct to a point. The TVR window closure system can cause an anomaly with the meta alarms, as the window ECU remains active for a period after closing.

The beeps alert you that the window circuit is still active, and although the car is locked and alarm active, the internal microwave sensor is deactivated. Ideally you should wait for a short period before pressing the key fob, then you will just get 2 flashes to confirm the car is locked, alarm and internal sensor activated.

Incidentally, they also advised that the horizontal position of the alarm unit / interior sensor is not ideal under the central tunnel cover, and works better when moved to a vertical position.

Hi the alarm beeps (usually 4) are to indicate the doors/boot are not closed if you get the beeps when the door is closed its most likely an iffy micro switch on either or both of the doors

I'm not sure that that is correct to be honest, the above replies pretty much summarise what's happening. The META alarm/immobiliser systems do notify you if there is a circuit broken (boot, door etc) but that's different to the normal lock/beep operation. In the book/service manual there is usually a META booklet which explains how the system operates, although some aspects may not be applicable to some people's set-up,
