Decat and Carbon Cans
Discussion
I'm sure that this exact topic has probably been discussed before, but hey, what the hell. Just had TrackVRoad decat my car with NTEL's decat pipes and turned up to collect it. The initial reason for doing it is that I have seen the state of some 6-7 year old cats and didn't want to run the risk of engine damaged, so rather than fork out for new cats I decided to go down the decat route.
So, I arrive at Clitheroe on Saturday morning to pick it up and after starting it up realise that it doesn't sound a lot louder, just deeper at tick over and has a great snarl/rasp when under throttle. This is good, I think, because I didn't want to be constantly being shouted at by those fortunate enough (for their wallet, that is) to not have the Petrolhead affliction. However, as is often the case, the little devil on my shoulder appears (aka Arran). Richard offers to try the car out with some Carbon Cans and do me a deal if I like the sound. So, some hammering and blowtorching later, the original cans are removed and the Carbon Cans put into place. The car is then started and OMG what a noise!
We also tried out NTEL's development cans but they really are just too much. I feared that I might attract police attention with those on.
Anyhow, I hand over the cash and take the car home. As the exhaust gets hotter I no longer have to try lifting off to get snaps and crackles, it does it in between gear changes, so I basically make my presence heard (and felt) through most of the villages on the way home.
So if anyone wants to know whether a decat is worth it, the answer is: Hell yes! If anyone wants to know whether Carbon Cans are worth it: Hell yes! If anyone wants to know whether they should do both: Hell yes!
Big thumbs up to Craig, Ian and Richard. But my bank manager is going to be falling out with you before too much longer

At one point we had the car running with no cans on the back at all. As soon as we offered up one of your cans to the exhaust you could feel the change in the noise. I was tempted to buy both sets - a set for each occasion then: normal for tracks, CCs for roads and your cans for giving people heart attacks

Mines decatted and my recently purchased CCC's are in the garage. Just waiting for a break in the weather so I can get the car out of the garage and fit them
If the cans have never been off before, don't underestimate how difficult a job it might be to get them off. You may need a couple of wood blocks (to wedge in between the back box and the car and the back box and the floor), a blow torch and a large hammer if mine was anything to go by.Thanks for the heads up. I had them off a couple of months ago to sleeve them, had no trouble getting them off, but it was far too loud so gone for CCC's. Had CCC's on my old Tuscan and they sounded great but that wasn't decatted.
Anyone wants the SS tube for sleeving, cut to length, PM me as I have mine that I won't be using
