Jerky acceleration

Has anyone experienced this before?
Tuscan Mk1 4.0 Car drives fine slowly, but under anything like normal acceleration or above(e.g. anything above a Nissan Micra beating pace) the car jolts as if it’s starved of air/fuel (it doesn't stall). I'm guessing fuel/air filter or fuel pump (which has started making a stranger whirring noise when priming than usual). I'm not great mechanically but as the garage is shut until new year was after some festive help.
