happy new year..tuscan newbie..with questions

Happy new year to you all!!,

I am a new proud Tuscan owner.. always wanted a tvr and fancied a kit car. so to combine the two i bought a acciednt damaged tuscan. its a 2000 reg with 22000 on the clock. is there anything i should be looking out for with the early tuscans? i have to put a new front on it and a new rear quarter. Does anyone have a passenger door complete?? need the outer door skin and the window to be exact but wil take anything...money waiting if anyone has one...

Also there is a diagnostic flashing on the dash. can i reset this or is it a garage thing?

I hope you got it very very cheap, as nice 2000 tuscans ready to go are now selling for less than nine grand, and for your KIT CAR comment i would be careful on here as TVR stopped selling kits in the seventies. If you look in the classifields there are a few breakers of TVRs.

What's the story with the engine, rebuilt or not? Good luck!
Try Mannings for insurance, especially if this is a second car.

I guess your aware of the engine rebuild issues. Check for oil on the spark plugs etc.
Hopefully your OK there. Check for wear in the throttle bodies as this effects tuning. The 2000 Tuscans didnt have bearings or bushes between the aluminium cast throttle body and the stainless steel shafts of the butterflies.

Engine fans should kick in one at a time at 94° and 97°C.

You may have the odd electric issue like window operation but things like that can wait.

When your up and running, I would put new shocks and springs and geometry set up high on your priorities list as it makes a heck of a difference to your driving enjoyment.

Good luck, nice to hear a Tuscan being repaired and back on the road. They are truely an awsome car.

what?? get of your soap box.. what else can you call a car thats in a 1000 bits?? i have a car in bits and a picture to work from. its like airfix all over again Unless you are going to supply me with a haynes!!. a motor rebuild doesnt worry me to much , are parts easy enough to get new i.e engine/box/elecs?. to be fair i mainly wanted it as a track car. ive raced bikes for 5 years and have got to many bits of metal holding bones together so i thought this would be a bit safer!!. the engines not being rebuilt but i have full history on it from Kerridges in Ipswich do you guys think its worth taking the head off and checking things?
Reading a few reports it seams alot of people have issues with the valve gear.

yeah thats the one, i live near a big boat factory(fairline) and they have laid 200 guys off on production, so there is plenty of glass fibre workers around to give me a hand, one of my bike racing sponsors is a painter who will let me borrow his booth and guns, i can rebuild the motor myself if it goes that far.

i tried mannings and i got it down to £611 !!!! thanks very much..i ow you a beer or several..paul

Sounds very much the same as my story mate, you'll have fun chasing bikes down the motorway!!! Welcome!! You will find a lot of good advice on here and a lot of very knowledgeable people........Also a lot of ******* with soapboxes and nothing better to do!!! Nice one enjoy!!!

New Tuscan owner myself (10 days) and sh** a brick when it started misfiring 2 days after ownership. But hey" My Tuscan info file on laptop is now 54 meg in size thanks to the guys on this forum. http://www.varleyhyd.com/fj062.asp
Have a look at this link,I know its for the Sagaris but there is loads of useful info here that also applys to the Tuscan including SPD6. Hold the main screen and fog button together to access the menu on pod, you will find in there a reset function for the pod. If you need Diagnostic software drop me a PM and i'll send it to you But not till Monday.

i bought my 1st cerbera for the winter when we went away int road racing,
there an exelent thrash and smash toy,definitely can be female, stubborn and orquard to move,break down every month,(crap maplins wiring connectors)and a coat of paint covers a multitude of sins a "restoring"often gives chance to iron out the niggles and modify these glorified kit cars but there to be used and abused and give lotsa laughs for the pound,depending on the loose nut holding the steering wheel. unless ya want to sit at home polishing it with jizza all day
plenty cheap parts/cars/photos and help about if a fellow needs it.

thanks for the help guys, i never thought about giving Glen ago. Just a couple of things to run by you quickly, if i dump the rear collectors(ones the cans attach to) do you think its going to make it no noisy?..one of them is bent so i cab maybe make up a pipe to fit in place.cheers paul

Have replaced the exhaust with straight through pipes as had ninetynine until he wrote it off noise level increases slightly but unless you have decats dont think you would find it a problem at all.

my cerby got replaced with just two gsxr thou race cans ,livable,unless your a neighbour.if in doubt take em out,if its too loud your too old.

Sweet, i work in the bike trade so have managed to aquire a couple of yoshimura tri oval carbon end cans, i have a local guy that makes exhausts for chevys welding me some new pipes up to bypass the rear collectors. Just dropped my rad off to some local guy who advertises as 'Dave the Rave radiators' scary eh... he is going to pressure check it and straighten it out as its a bit like a curly wurly after the crash. Once i get the exhausts sorted and the rad back on i can check the engines ok and then make a start on the body work. I have done a bit of reserch on its history. its had a few factory upgrades indicated on the service history. i can only guess these were recalls or alterations the factory have notifyed dealers to do. I have posted a few pics, started repairing the big bonnet, its looks a lot worse than it is, ive taken a bit of the fibreglass back to the solid part. just have to glass some mounting points on then i can make a start on the wings. Cant wait to track day this thing. bonus as well.. i was under the car cutting the old bent exhausts off and noticed the previous owner has put new shocks on, they look like remote adjustable items.. also got ap calipers on the front are these standard??,

AP calipers are standard issue. AS for photo's I use photobucket and link to there, there are other ways, I'm sure someone who knows how will be along.

Keep us informed about your exhaust. Bypassing the rear mufflers, quality!!
