I'm about to buy my first car via private sale. Due to parting with much of my hard earned cash, I don't want to find I've bought an insurance right-off, a stolen car or a car with lots of finance still to pay. Please can anyone advise which Checker to use?

Points to consider before replying:-
1. I know PH offers a link to HPI Checker but £19.99 is too much for each car checked.
2. I know there are mobile text services for £3.99 but if they are wrong there's no insurance to back you up.
3. Therefore I want to pay around £10 for a full HPI/insurance right-off check, with VIN checking and full insuranced results of £10k+ for any problems resulting in financial loss.

Can anyone advise? (web links would be good)
Cheers
Daz

Just checked a Chimaera using the RAC service. £9.99. Seems comprehensive and £5000 insurance included. You will need VIN number, registration, and serial number/date of issue of V5.

thumbup +1 for the RAC service. Used it a few times now and it is as comprehensive as you get.
