Hot Starting Problem Solved

I posted on here a little while ago and I know some others have had the same problem. My car would start up with no problems but when the engine was hot it really struggled to turn over and sometimes failed to start (on hot days). This is a real problem if you only stop for petrol.

I had a new battery fitted so thought it couldn't be that. I had even tried a jump pack linked to the Anderson connector to confirm this.

I had a new starter motor fitted. No change.

The problem has now been solved. A new battery has sorted it, but not the recommended type.

I have fitted an Optima Red Top RT S 4.2 it has 815 CCA (cold crank amps) which is about 150 more than standard batteries.

The car now starts easily every time.

Not a cheap battery but if you are having problems, get one fitted.

How did you secure this battery in the tray? Any pics?

I'm having the same problem just now though recently hasn't been as bad which is strange.

Think i remember reading someone puting heat shield wrapping around the starter motor aswell. Can somebody confirm this?

Higher power starter fitted to later sags, does the trick.

I would try the engine earth just to be sure. It only takes a minute.

Simply attach a HD battery jumper cable from the exhuast manifold to the negative post of the battery. If it is the earth the engine will turn more quickly.

The standard battery and starter are perfectly adequate for the job. According to TVR Power starters rarely fail, but the earth lead can degrade and when an electrical lead is hot it will have more resistance. Remember it is attached to the engine block!

It worked for me and saved me over £200
