T2 vert handling
Discussion
Hi all
I have a MK2 vert I get bad bump steering and at high speeds over 140 it is very skitish (if that's a word)at the front.
On flat surfaces up 70 it is spot on i can let the back slid out and it is very predictable. It has been set up twice by MD to last TVR settings.
Firstly i am not going to buy nitrons etc. It has bilsteins and is worse than my old MK1 so i don't think it is the dampers anyway i don't like a car that just keeps gripping until it lets go. I like it lively.
I suspect I have two problems firstly bump steer, I think it is the geometry? as this only happens under braking and on tram lines.
Secondly + 140 this is the dangerous bit. I suspect the rear spoiler that was not there on the MK1 has messed with the downforce. causing the front to go light. I think a pair of winglets on the front may help has anyone done this did it improve things? Does the standard car produce front end downforce ie,through the grill rads etc.

Sorry Lee, can't help 'cos I never do those sort of speeds...All I know is that 'S's have stiffer springs, and the ride height is adjusted differently (don't ask me.. ask Ben Lang), of course an 'S' has the front spitter and holes in the front grill to allow air to pass through. Ben also advised me to put 225's rather than 255's on the front, which I have done, and I think it drives better...but not at 140 mph (never been there!!)..Well once on Kirkbride Airfield (where I was more worried about stopping in time...before the end of the runway).
With 255s I had the odd scary moment when I hit a pothole, under braking going into a corner...and thought I'd finish up off the road...must have slowed down recently and haven't had any brown trouser moments for a while.

By the way Lee...remember the old diff shunt problem... I got mine fixed by putting in a shorter prop shaft and flanged diff (changed to 3:73 at the same time)...Shunt gone... But only last week I spoke to TVRs race team, and they confirmed a change on Mk2s to the longer prop was the problem...not allowing for expansion... and an improved "plunge" with the shorter prop...(don't ask me
what effect that has)
what effect that has)Thanks Keith
The diff make the odd clunk but nothing serious.
The tyre pressures where all over the place, now running 23 on the front and 24 on the rears.
Just got the car back from Dan Taylor he has done a full Geometry setup seem a lot better now.
Will wait for a quiet night and see if its better at high speeds.
