The price sounds about right - removing the exhaust sounds like rubbish!!

There are 3 screws (on mine) that hold the centre console in place. One near your left knee, one near your passengers right knee and the last one under the rear screen air vent. Remove these then lift up the console. The console will be attached via a multiplug for the windows/heater etc - pull apart and place to one side. You'll need to remove the gear lever knob top, normally by unscrewing. Grip it with some hefty pliers/wrench suitably wrapped in cotton wool so as not to scratch the knob. It may come undone easily, it may not! I think you might also need to remove the machined handbrake bit - there are two grub screws I think on the underside, small allen key will do the trick.

Then simply lift the gear lever gaitor off from the gear stick and from the handbrake - I don't even think it is screwed down if memory serves me correctly.

As per the Haynes manual - refitting is the opposite to removal!!

Good luck!! Where are you getting your new gaiter from by the way?

Sort of. Who told you that the exhaust needs to come off? Hilarious.

The centre console comes off easily, first remove gearknob, then two screws either side at front by your knee, then pull out rear screen vent, a bolt is under there. Remove handbrake chrome bit use allen key. Pull out ashtray. You can then carefully lift off centre console, there is wiring for the switches at the front, so be carefull, then can unclip if you want, and the air hose for the rear screen vent. Then you can lift off the carpet covered fibreglass surround the gear gaitor and handbrake gaitor are glued to.

Piece of piss.
