Speedo/ dash removal

Has anyone removed their MK 1 speedo, if so how do you go about it? Is it easy to do or best left to a specialist?

I think its just a case of a few screws, i will be doing mine soon to replace the speedo illumination. When i had a quick look thereis a top and bottom part to the section behind the silver front of the pod, it looks like the top is just secured with a few screws. My plan it to take those out to rerelease the top then go from there with what i find.

out of interest is the illumination just an LED - I was considering changing the colour for something that you can actually see in daylight.

Im not sure but will let you know when i strip it. Stupid incaters, i often do that. There is not much of a click either like other cars ive had.

I think everyone with TVRs often forget to switch indicators off...especially with the roof off...you can't hear them and I never seem to notice the light until I've driven a mile or two....

That's why I had a buzzer fitted, could that be done without taking the dash to pieces?

I have recently removed pod/dash to replace LCD screen. I think it is a fairly straightforward job for a competent DIYer. I did previously find some instructions on here but have not been able to find the link now!

Essentially (from memory):
1) remove the 2 screws holding the upper part of the dash on either side
2) carefully lift up and out the upper part of the dash noting that it can catch on connections to the pod. In fact there are several connections from the pod to the upper dash housing that need to be disconnected. Remember where they go!
3) the circuit-boards are secured to the metal surround of the pod via a metal frame that is attached at the back by 2 screws and at the front by 2-4 screws (depending on what you find!). There should be a further 4 long screws holding the circuit-boards in place that will also need to be removed.
4) you should now be able to remove the circuit-boards in one piece after disconnecting from wiring loom
5) you can then disassemble circuit-boards one-layer at a time noting what connects to what.
6) the reverse is applicable for fitting.

If my memory serves me correctly, the LEDs are soldered into the circuit-board and definitley would be outside my comfort zone in changing....
