Hi... I need to get my car serviced (2000 W Tuscan Mk I) and would like to hear some opinions on local places.

TVR Barnet are on my door step but in the past I've heard some things that've put me off. Mate of mine had a Griff and a Chim from there and had them both serviced there but ALWAYS walked away with about a £1,000 bill. I owned a Chim for 4 years (which was much older) and had it serviced else where and never had anything over £600 with the average being £450. Mate experience was some years ago now so was wondering if anyone had any recent experience.

My engine was re-built by TVR Craft and I've heard mixed things about them so want the top end checked out by someone I can trust. My car has now done about 4K since the re-build and Derek of Absolutly Shocks said it was a fast/good engine but won't know for sure until the top end is checked.

I know I have to expect a cost of ownership but I want to know that I've paid the right amount. If it gets too much the Tuscan will have to go and I don't want that just because of bad servicing experiences.

Help will be appreciated.

I find Barnet are v expensive and not always pragmatic in their view. I would not hesitate to call Joe at Castle TVR in Stansted - great service at a sensible cost.

I'd echo that! Castle are very good.

I live on the Herts Essex borders and use Leven Technology in Basildon, excellent service so far, have also heard good things about Castle who are more local and used to be more expensive.

This was partly why I was asking.

Does the guy that used to own Barnet own some/all of Castle?

I was wondering if it was a case that the old offical dealers now have to be more competative??

Hi, Giles who used to own TVR BARNET has a stake in Castles but has nothing to do with Trimar, I would be a bit nervous of putting my car in for a service with anyone as you have had a engine rebuild by that company you mention, Trimar are not the cheapest so you pay your money and take your choice, if i was you now that the car is 9 years old go to a indy like Top Cats for a better price.....

Yes. Much better service/prices from Castle in my view.
