Cats needed

Has anyone who has done a decat or got spares lurking got a pair of cats that they no longer need. I have had mine on the car for 800 miles from new and they are melted. Ahhhh! Not sure why or whether this will be covered by a warranty but need some sensibly priced replacements. Alternatively, has anyone tried either of these or have any thoughts/ opinions?

I think one of my cats is shot. Been reading up on it and if they go before 25k miles it's usually a bigger issue. I was cautioned against buying new cats before the engine was checked out or it could happen again. Mine is going into the workshop next week. I'll let you know what the diagnosis is.

Mike : I'd get the engine checked...... It sounds like your exhaust valves might not be seating properly, or your running a very weak mixture.

Assuming they're the original TVR cats, there's something wrong for them to melt (And particularly in 800 miles).

Not wanting to be the bearer of bad news, but at the same time wouldn't want anyone spending the sort of money cats cost, only to have the same thing happen again.

Thanks for the advice guys. My engine was rebuilt 1000 miles ago and has been hesitant. I took it up to the rebuilder who balanced the throttle bodies and all seems ok now. The rebuilder has offered to decat the cats and send a chip for free. I am not sure if the decat is going to be too loud on an S spec engine with the wider bore exhaust hence am looking for some second hand, low mileage cats.

I just decatted mine, which has the standard exhaust system on. And cruising at motorways speeds (TVR Motorway Speeds) there's no noticable difference. You only notice the change in exhaust note under hard acceleration (More of a raspy bark) and on a trailing throttle, when you get the traditional TVR pops and bangs (Only Louder).

I think you'll be fine if you still have the standard cans on.

Honestly would get the engine checked though, it shouldn't be running exhaust temps high enough to burn out a pair of cats in 800 miles.

I do have CCC's on hence it is fairly loud already.
