Quick Question...

Hey,

Quick one really... Weighing up the idea of a Tuscan as a daily driver and i can see that some of you do this.

Does the fact you have a TVR Tuscan put you of long journeys e.g. few hundred mile trips? Do you have to take extra precaustions etc?

No, the only thing that puts me off any particular long drive is potential for bad traffic jams on the way and where it will be parked at the other end.

Not a Tuscan owner but same engine - the only thing that pus me off my T350 as a daily driver is short journeys - where the engine doesn't get chance to fully warm up. Long journeys though they love.

Ahh ok so not too many worries regarding long journeys say few hours on a motorway etc... Just traffic jams people are worried about? :S

Seem to be all of the same opinion here.

Like everyone else, it's the potential stop start/traffic jam and city driving that I hate, not that a Tuscan isn't capable of city driving, it's just that it's like trying to hold a dog on a leash the moment you leave the house. For long journeys I absolutely love taking the tuscan, but do avoid the obvious bad weather. Call me a wuss, but I spend so much time trying to keep it mint, both on top and underneath that for the sake of going out in the rain I don't bother. And at the end of the day it's a second car and my toy, so wet days the Peugeot has to suffer.

As far as I'm concerned a long journey is an opportunity to really enjoy the Tuscan. It also gives you the opportunity / excuse to try more interesting routes to get to your destination so that you don't get stuck in traffic jams on the motorway. However, mine has been absolutely fine whenever I have been when stuck in traffic.

I have done plenty of trips to Germany in my Tuscan. Never a problem.
A bit scarry in the wet and tram lines before but with the new wheels, shocks and geo setup its been fine.

Did 1000 miles including the North Wales Roads over the bank hol weekend - went through a bit of oil but no probs.

Oil and tyre pressure is all I think about before a long journey.

I get up early and take 'fun' roads - the Motorway is not where I want to be clocking up the miles.

Not at all. In fact I tend to use the Tuscan for long journeys more than my daily snotter. No "extra precautions" required. I use mine all year round, sun, rain or snow.

As said above, it is the short journeys that are more of a pain - no time to warm up the oil.

3 TVR's (1 Tuscan), all used in all weathers. No leaks.

Funny that mine has been out in some terrible rain and I only have had 1 leak and that was due to the passanger window being broken and not going up at all lol. No leaks now

I've been using my Tuscan as a daily driver since I got it back about a month ago. I love driving it and long journeys are not a problem, in fact they are great fun.

Only problem I have is that I seem to have a target painted on the car just now making people wanting to drive into me culminating in frday past taking avoiding action and breaking an alloy and bursting 2 tyres.

For that reason and that alone, i'm on the look out for a cheap run around so I don't have to worry everytime I go to work or the shops.

Been driving my Mk1 Tuscan nearly everyday for about 2 years now. The only issue has been heat when I got stuck in a jam. I always make sure Igo out 5 mins early, start the car and then dont go over 3k revs until its heated up.

Nope, in fact I want to do more long journeys in it. Mine overheated in traffic once, but that was thanks to a knackered water temp sensor. It's been fine since the replacement.

It's also been driven in the rain, snow, etc. and I've not had any leaks.

Agree with UpTheIron, use it all year round, rain or shine and never have any bother. Drive carefully in the wet and like you stole it in the dry and you can't go wrong. Never had a leak or problems due to water.
I only use mine for long journeys, leaving London on Friday night in traffic and heading out on the M4 arriving on the B roads around 9pm and I genuinely get excited that at the end of my day I'm going to go for a 2-3 hour drive in my Tuscan. Longer journeys really give you a chance to feel how it's running, relax in to the drive and if you do the journey often work on your split times!

Love mine, would have no hesitation using it every day as a commuter, except as said b4 , my commute is only 7 miles, in heavy traffic - suzuki can take the wear and tear. Done more miles than i planned but thats the problem with a tusc, clear roads and 50m for a pint of milk isnt a hardship ...its a joy. Sad i know but last saturdays "milk and paper run" took 7 hours. was the wife pi**ed or what ha ha
