Ok guys,

I may have to bite the bullet my girl friend and I are thinking of upgrading the house and sadly this would mean me clearing my debts and the only way I think I can do that is down size the weekend toy.

So its a 2000 W reg Tuscan Mk1 with 22k miles. Full TVR service history and full engine rebuild by TVR in 2004. New clutch at 19k miles, racing reds 4 months ago along with new engine mounts and big service.

only down sides are small scuff on nearside front wheel, stone chips and surface rust on the chassis.

I am thinking of putting it up for £17,995 but unsure if this is to much.

Dave, in all seriousness, I think you have vastly over egged your pudding! Your engine rebuild is now out of warranty and it was done long enough ago and by TVR (of all people) so some may say it wasn't done properly (Was it Dom at TVR Power or TVR themselves? (or were they one and the same.....?)). New clutch at 19K, but when was that in months/years ago? Racing reds are only £500 or so and most Tuscans have changed suspension so it's not much of a pull. Small scuffs, chips and rust all go to reduce the price - the mileage is on your side, but then for a car of 9 years, why is it so low? Has it not been driven? Under 2.5k per year isn't much - even for a weekend toy.

It will always be worth much more to you than anyone else - mine is a Jan 02 registered (51 plate) Tusc, no engine rebuild (53K miles!) GGP suspension, similar scuffs and chips and probably rust (but kept at bay as best as poss) and I would expect mine to be circa 12K (and to get knocked down on that!). I'd like to hope mine was nearer 15K but I doubt it VERY much.

Not the news you are looking for but in this day and age of recession, people won't pay 18K for a car of that age with the issues you've alluded to. I'd even be surprised that a MINT 2000 Tusc would fetch 18K unless the engine rebuild was within 1-2 years, done by RG or TVR Power, and had LOTS of upgrades inc respray to get rid of chips etc.

Sorry mate! frown

PS I wouldn't sell mine as I'd lose too much - I think I'll have this for a few more years yet and I've already had mine for over 3 years which is too long for me normally!!

edited 'cos the red wine has kicked in!

You have to price it relative to the other cars in the classified ads, depending on condition and spec. The price your suggesting is "Top Money" for a 2000 car, so you'd have to be confident that it was in better condition than all of the other 2000 cars to ask that price.

It's no good advertising it at "Top Money" if it's not in a better condition than others advertised for less. If your really after a sale, then you must maket it competetivly. Otherwise it'll just sit in the Classifeds for months.

Buyers have budget to work too......... and they'll purchase the best car than can get with their budget.

Thanks all good points I think I will put it up for a high 15k and see what happens, we are at the moment only on the initial budget setting so we may be able to work my odd credit card into the mortgage or get a good low interest loan (its not that much just more than I can pay off in a short time frame). Do you think it would be worth seeing if anyone would be willing a part ex of a Griff? As that would be the next car (due to cheaper running costs)

I don't understand everyones insistance on selling their Tuscan for bargain basement prices. If you look at the classified ads on this site people are selling Chimaera's for 13-14k with higher mileage than your Tuscan.

That was my thinking hence why I am confused. In an ideal world I would love to be able to keep the tuscan but the next best thing would be to sell it and get a Griff 500, however they seem to have held their price very well. Unless I go for an early one.

Chimaeras and Griffiths don't tend to attract nearly the same sort of running costs. For the sort of money I've spent on my '93 Chim all-in I could easily get a Tuscan, but while my car is pretty much sorted and running costs fairly predictable as a result, I wouldn't want to run a Tuscan with out-of-warranty major mechanicals without having easy disposal of an extra £5K or so.

Sorry Mate,

I think the actual sale price would be 12K maximum.

Good Luck!

Well on a lighter side it looks like its going no where for the time being (yey) may be taken off the road for a year or so until finances are straight but at least I can do some long term work on her.

Relatively speaking...... The TVR Tuscan is a rare car with supercar performance and outstanding looks. Owners should be almost in a position to level the values of the cars, if everyone stuck together and agreed to maintain our values by not selling at cheap prices.

Mine is an almost identical spec.
I have nitrons but also a FULL BODY respray carried out in 2006. Rebuild by TVR Power in 2003.

I couldn't sell her at £14000 last year.....

I'm gonna try again soon at £12000.

Its a bh.

Jim it's a noble thought but the problem with sticking together is some people have to sell their car and can't hold out for a price and some cars are in poor condition and don't warrant more than £12K.

Personally I took my time and having previously owned a Tuscan, did my research and ultimately paid top money for a close to immaculate Mk1 with a very recent Power full rebuild. Similar age cars were going for 4 or 5K less but you get what you pay for and I didn't want to buy a dog and then have to spend 10K sorting it out - the running costs are enough as it is smile

Sorry to say it, but don't expect great sums for it.

I looked at getting rid of my '05 Tuscan 2 3.6 earlier in the year, and the best a dealer (as it's on HP) would give me was £17-18k. It's got 16k miles on the clock, and I 'bought' it for £30k in July '07.

Needless to say I still have it, as the prices I've been offered are thousands less than the HP settlement figure.

My approach would be don't accept crap valuations. It's just someone trying it on with you, or someone advising you who accepted a crap valuation on theirs.
Anyway, you should keep the car. It's an awesome piece of kit. Many people who sell their TVR end up regretting it later.

I still find it amazing that you can pick these up for £12k!

I think alot of it is luck - specialist cars need specialist buyers. You should not let it go for a criminal price unless you are desperate.

When I sold my VX220 it was a sensible price but I had very little interest - was just about to go abroad for 6 months and a bloke turned up, offered me what I was asking, paid extra for the mods gave me a deposit that day.

Just need to be sensible and take your time.

I am looking to buy one at the moment, and I think the problem is there are loads for sale for around £14-16k. Sellers are willing to accept a lot less.

You guys should advertise the car at the price you want and say 'NO OFFERS'.
The cars which are advertised for £11-12K sell very very quickly!

If anyone has a nice black one for sale - let me know (",)
