Buying a CAT D?

OK - I have been looking for a Tuscan for a few weeks now, not in a rush to buy, but have seen a nice one on eBay for sale.
It is CAT D repaired...I have emailed the seller, but not reply yet.
Just wanted to know what people's thoughts are and whether anyone has bought a previously written off car. Any warnings or advice?
I read in another thread that I should be looking to pay approx 75% of trade price...does that sound reasonable.
I would only consider this car if its had a full thatcham/autolign inspection and an engine rebuild recently.

IMHO nothing wrong with a CAT D.
Its possible to get a good deal on one with very low mileage.
However I would recommend asking to see pictures of before, during and after restorations are completed as this will giv a good idea as to the exact extent of the damage and procedures used to fix.
If it all lines up correctly, and all panels are put on correctly it is possible to end up with one built as well if not better than the factory production car.

Yeah dont be put off to much, they are fairly easy to get sorted, the is very straight forward compared to sum modern stuff. Loads of upgrades and mods to do whil you are rebuilding, ilike waterproofing certain wiring blocks to altering suspension...the only thing with bodywork is it gets really messy!! so you will need a garage !!! also decide how long it will take then double that!!

Be careful, my brother bought a cat d griff from a 'specialist' in Birmingham who also traded marcos. Looked great but never felt right, I thinkk it had quite severe damage which they covered over cosmetically. He got a resonable trade in in the end against a new car (non TVR) so was lucky, but it wasn't a good experience and wouldn't go near one again.
There is repaired one on ebay...

How mcuh should I be looking to pay? Problem is, this car is all the way in Manchester and I live in London, so quite a long way.

What does seem strange is the lack of information and photographs provided.
If this was someones pride and joy they would list all the extras, time and money spent as well as showing more photos.
So is it a trader selling a p/x? Is it someone selling it on behalf of someone else? or is it someone who has purchased and repaired and now selling trying to make a profit?
My guess is the first. If I was you before travelling up i would get a full list of reciepts, get all servicing information, former keepers, further pictures etc etc

There was a totally immaculate Tuscan CAT D in Wymondham, Norfolk a while back.
Everything was really nice, drove beautifully, looked stunning inside and out and the documentation looked good. The guy said he would have taken 10.5K on it, which sounded about right to me.
Don't know what he actually got for it??

There are actually a lot of MK1 Tuscans for sale at around £14k and owners who are willing to let them go for £12k.
I am particular about the colour I want though...I want a black one.
The cat d one on eBay has been removed now (for a new advert) - its not black.
Ideally, I would find an early black one in someones garage, which is in great mecahnical condition, with cosmetic work which needs to be done i.e. wheels refurb, light bodywork etc. Anybody have one of these? ;-)
