tyres again

Hi all, on my Tuscan i have 225/35/18s all round, but have been told that 225/35/18s on the front and 255/35/18s on the rear is the best set up.... as i am about to buy 4 new tyres what do you guys suggest. Many Thanks, Gordon...

Hmmm, not sure if I remember well, but I thought the best / a good set up (outer diameter harmony) is 225/40/18 front & 255/35/18 rear.

Think mine are 225/40/18 front & 245/35/18 rear.
Need to check when I get home.

I have 235 40 18 front and 255 35 18 rear. The fronts seem to help stop tramlining.

I've got 225/40s on the front and 255/35s on the rear of my convertible (Goodyear F1s), seems to work OK. On Ben Langs recommendation.
I've got my supplied front 255/35s sat on their wheels in the summerhouse !!!

In general the non-S have narrower tyres on the fron than the rears. On Ss the tyres were typically the same width all round. On Mk1s, 40s profile help stability depending on the age of car. Don't know if any 40s were put on Mk2s.

For example my 2001 non-S wore 235/40, 245/40 front and rear, my 2005 S runs 255/35 all round.

Yep, my 2004 Mk1 S has 255/35 all-round and this is what is specced in the papers. I wonder if it would still sail through the MOT when going to 225s/40 or 235/40 at the front ?

Thanks Rens914! So according to this calculator 225/40/18 at the front and 255/35/18 on the rear axle is the way to go then.

They only got wide tyres on the front because Wheeler liked the look of them. They were designed for 225s or 235s on the front. That's what all the press or development cars had fitted.

Just had Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta 235/40 front and 255/40 rear fitted to my 2001 Tuscan S, previously they were 35s all round, Toyos, they have stopped it tram lining, no issues so far, they seem to hold the road well, got caught out in the rain and I'm still here. They do look a little unusual though.

I've got 225/35's on the front and 255/35's on the rear. This setup works for me, very little tramlining and all I need to do is upgrade the suspension now to make the handling perfect.

Saw them on e-bay, a guy in North Wales, Chirk Tyres, they were just over £500 delivered, got a mate to fit them. He's got a special offer on the 255/35 R18
