I asked a similar question a couple of weeks ago as it certainly seems well priced and a nice colour / interior combination but nobody on here seems to know of the car.
Tony at HHC said 6 previous owners and an engine in 2004 with clutch 3k ago. If it wasn't a 6 hour round trip I'd have gone to view as was tempted.

bought a car on pistonheads without seeing it. flew to london and drove the car back to my country.
if 6 hours is to much good luck looking for that one jewel.

Did exactly the same when i bought recently my Tuscan. Take the ferry with friends to UK, some guys take the trailer with the tuscan racer to Rockingham and i took a rental ford from hull to manchester. take the tuscan, bring the rental to manchesterairport and drive it to Holland ....... Buy it, drive it and then view it!!!

I agree to an extent and I certainly would've bought either of my Tuscan's without seeing and driving them first. However I did buy my X5 from PH classified unseen. It had less that 30K on the clock with a full BMW history, didn't seem like too much of a gamble to me

i only made a small downpayment and am my own mecanic
i would have turned back without car
but till now (and i have checkd the car at the local tvr dealer) it's a fine example
i only made the statement that 6 hours wouldnt resist me to take a look at perhaps my new toy

I bought my Mk1 Tuscan from an internet add whilst in the US.
My wife and nephew went to look at it and reported it being OK and got it for me.
The engine died 34 miles after I got home.
So I was a little more careful with my Mk2.
Saw the add on Saturday night and called the guy.
400 mile round trip Sunday to check it out and bought it on the Monday.
So the moral of the tale is send your wife to check it out. If anything goes wrong, your home free.

Interesting thread this, I would be intrigued to know what the general consensus is on what’s the best procedure to buy a TVR, given there reputation etc.
From my point of view, I looked at 5 Tuscans on Autotrader’s web site, did HPI’s on 3 of them, one was a Cat C [ that’s an interesting story, the sellers said it was a 440 R !! ], the other had been stolen, one was an unpleasant [ IMO ] green, the one I eventually bought ticked all the boxes, although at the time, I wanted a light Met blue one.
I called the trader, who appeared strait forward, agreed a deal in principal over the phone, as I did not want to make two trips, then went and looked at what is now my P & J.
I have good mechanical skills, [ not brilliant, but good enough! ] and gave the car a good look over inside, outside, and underneath, before taking for a test drive. That’s the trouble, as soon as you drive a good one, you’re hooked!
Deal done, drove home, minus money.
Then, I discovered Pistonheads, good job I did after I bought one, as what I read on various topics on here, would have put me off buying a TVR for life!
14 months later, 8500ms, a 4.3 upgrade [ it had to be done!! ], new clutch, I have no regrets, and I have never been left stranded.
My over half thinks I love my car more than her, it’s a hard choice, they both have great curves, and look great, but they are both VERY much female in there ways! Best thing about a TVR though, is you can switch it off!

don't want to sound arrogant, but me and my friend William (Cantus on PH) bought at least 20 TVR's (lots for trading as well) unseen by phone over the last 15 years. I did it with lots of other makes as well.
If you ask for good clear pictures and do a thorough telephone interview i don't see a lot of difference in hearing and seeing "live".
May be we have been lucky, but you can tell a lot from the way the car is presented on pics and if you have a little feeling for people a phone-conversation tells a lot about the kind of guy you are speaking to which help you judge the car better as well.
The kind of people who drive and mostly cherish these kind of cars are almost always enthusiast who are either upgrading or having other reasons having to sell. Of course there will be exceptions, but i rather tend to trust than distrust this kind of people. Buying from private people has caused us no harm so far.
And besides; if a proper ramp-checkup will uncover any reliability-issues with a TVR?

My friend went to see this car after it had been put through the paintshop and workshop. However, he commented that it was still a bit of a dog and that the recently paintwork was a different shade to the original. The dealer waffled reasons as to why. Perhaps it's been cleaned up now.
He ended up getting a much lesser miles car and newer for the same money.
