Tuscan Mk 2 dash question

I have a Mk 2 with the pod style dash. I have seen some Mk 2 dashboards with a kind of cover / unit above the drivers pod housing the lcd screen. Mine does not have this. What was this - was it an optional extra of some sort, or is it some sort of sun deflector??

I think it comes as standard to be honest. Never seen a T2 without one. Just means yours is special

Looks very much like a fix for sun glare.

Having glanced through the classifieds, it seems that it is present usually on early Mk 2's (54 / 05 / 55 plates) and is not present on later Mk 2's (such as mine which is a 56 plate. Perhaps it was removed as a cost saving measure, although not sure what its purpose was. It does not appear to protrude far enough out above the pod to be of much use as a sun deflector.

Does sod all for the sun! I don't know of it serving any purpose, certainly not found one for it on mine.
