MB quart and speakers

Hi,

I'm looking to replace my side rear speakers. MB quart seems to be favourite. Does anybody have the model number handy?

I would also like to add MB quarts to the rear bulk head. Again does anybody know off hand the model number required and know of a cheap place to buy them online?

Also does the standard pioneer head unit have preouts for an amp?


Any help appreciated

Steve, I think they are the same as the Tam but not 100% certain. If they are then its

Have a look on flee bay. Be carefull through as I understand from Karl baker who did my install they are no longer made by the Germans and the quality is poor. I paid £380 for the speakers + custom install. Give Karl a ring at Car & Bike I am sure he will sell you a set if he has any left.

Is it just that Karl likes MB Quart (or gets a decent deal) or is there something else about these speakers - eg shallow (thats just a guess - no idea if they are)

Sorting the stereo has been on my list for 18 months!

It would be good to get some decent pictures of peoples installs.

Nope Carl likes them for the quality they deliver at the price, if there were an alternative then I'm quite sure he'd be recommending that too - for instance he changes his recommendations quite regularly on head units. Having worked my way through each of his recommended options most recently fitting amps to drive the Quarts in my Cerb, I can tell you that they are absolutely top notch speakers as my results are pretty spectacular.

MB Quart Germany was bought by a US company that produced speakers with the MB Quart name. The quality of the US made items is very much inferior to the German items so careful what you buy on ebay! What was MB Quart Germany can now no longer use that name but the same people have restarted their business as German Maestro (the merger with a US company was ultimately rejected by the German courts and unwound, but the US company now owns the name). Carl is dealing with GM now so you can still get speakers with the same performance should you wish.

Carl has just done a full install in my car simply stunning and worth every penny, when my two teenage sons heard the system for the first time the first thing they said was "were are the amps"
Don't need amps when you have quality, Well pleased

I cannot justify the cost of getting Karl to fit a system so will be doing it myself.

I was going to go for an amp and potentially a small sub but if its not needed would make life simplier and cheaper.

Might have to take it to Karl to attempt to sort out my radio reception (or complete lack of it)

I have just had a chat with Carl. I happy that the Mb quarts are the way forward. They are perhaps slightly more than I was going to spend on speakers but he's convinced me they are worth it and I wont be disappointed. I was sure I would need an new amp and possibly head unit so taking that into account I'm actually spending way less than planned, never mind the less hassle on install.

Carl suggests installation takes him around 1.5 DAYS and he knows what he's doing. I'm off for two weeks hopefully this will be long enough for me.

I have just installed a decent pair of 9x6's in a false panel under the ledge of the rear screen - just kinda made it up as I went along, but really pleased with the resulting huge improvement in sound for not a lot of money!
The most difficult bit for me was cutting the panel in a shape to fit snugly into the recess, as it curves top and bottom, with an angled cut to the top one to match the slope of the bulkhead.
Managed to get two cables from the head unit under the centre console and rear carpet shelf, and just need a piece of carpet to trim the panel and finish it off.
As I said, very good sound now and it will look great once trimmed, so i'm well pleased as I did'nt want to spend silly money on something that wont be used a lot - but at least i can now hear it clearly when wanted!
I'm afraid I didn't take any pics, but I'll take one of the finished job - and it could be removed without any visible evidence very easily if required....

Can hear cd with roof off on mway at 70mph (ahem!)
Also routed cables through the middle under carpet
Shape is tricky...agreed...but worth the effort
Next job is to put a beesting antenna on the roll over hoop and ditch the one in the front wing

Not quite sure what you mean here - is the antenna outside the car?

I heard someone say that they could put an antenna inside the car somewhere.

Keen to retain the lines of the car if I can.

Yeah I know what you mean, but I was thinking a small shark fin ( if there is such a thing?) on the hoop bit wouldn't look too bad to get a decent radio reception.

Hi Steve,

I bought my MB Quart speakers through eBay and the part number was PSD316, and with this you get the 6.5"/4"/1" speakers and two crossover units. I've fitted the two sets of rear speakers and just need to workout how to feed the door twitter cable between the body work and the door, so they are temporary fitted to the dashboard shelve. The rear speaker holes had to be slightly enlarged avoiding the tubular frame. The sound quality is much better than the original two speaker system fitted to the car.
