to upgrade or not

Hi, I would be gratful of a little advice,whether to upgrade from a 3.6 to a 4.0S.
so I'll be going from an 05 to a 56 plate my mileage is approx 3,500 very low to 12,100 miles and the price to change £10,000 is an S worth that amount of money to change? Thanks Jeff

Why wouldn't you just upgrade to a TVR Power 4.3 engine, then add a lower ratio diff and bigger front discs? Performance will certainly exceed the 'S' then, plus you have a 5 year engine warranty.

The only reason I can see to spend £10k changing from one Tuscan to another is if you really prefer the colour, trim, spec and condition of the other car, i.e. things it's impossible or uneconomical to change on your own.

As Pete has already mentioned 10k will easily get you a 4.3 upgrade and the all important 5 year warranty. Plus you get to keep a car you know and love!
My T350 is a 3.6 and TBH when I've been out with other TVRs I see little difference in performance between it and the 4.0 Tuscans, though they do have a little more torque and hence low end grunt, but 10ks worth of torque? No way!!!

I went down this path with my old Chim, it went something like this....

want a more powerful engine so either SC or Taraka it - Dom quoted me £5600 for a 400 - 500 Taraka conversion
needs (professional) recarpetting - cost around £1k
needs outriggers doing - cost £2k
oh, and a front end respray - £1k

so wife says (bless her) "no point spending that on the Chim, you'll never get it back - better spend it on a newer car"

so, I took the cash I would have spent on the Chim, plus the Chim itself, 'refreshed' the original Chim loan that was soon to finish and went and got a brilliant deal from HHC and got me an '06 Tuscan 2S

Now that's a proper upgrade!

The missus did have a point though - when does upgrading your existing motor become 'uneconomical'

One of the factors which decided on the car I bought was the mileage, which was 2000 miles, just run in, before I bought, I asked the question from a different dealer if I'd notice any difference between the 3.6 an d 4.0ltr, and was told no not unless I was alongside a 4.0 ltr on the autobahn, reading other threads, opinion appears to favour the 4.0 S, so I thought perhaps I bought the wrong car.
I thought £10,000 to change was rather excessive, you know how the dealers work, and they want the world for theirs and want our part ex for as little as they can get away with giving.
Thanks for the replies you’ve confirmed what I was thinking.
