Can't open the service bonnet

Still new to this, just bought my first Tuscan, sorry if this issue is in another thread (couldn't locate through search)...

As the title states, I guess the lock mechanism on the main bonnet is supposed to pull back the pin which locks the service bonnet? If so, I can't see the pin moving, so I guess I have an issue?

If not, what am I missing?

When you say "lock mechanism" do you mean the lock, or the pop-up lever?

it does sound like you have an issue, you should see it move when you pull back the lever, have you popped open the two outside catches by gently pulling them up?

Hi,

I mean I can see a 'pin' a the top of the main bonnet which mates and locks into service bonnet.

It seems I can 'open the lock' that is under the service bonnet, wondered if when opening the lock would pull the 'pin' away from the service bonnet?

the pin is in the car body and not the bonnet that lifts up. If you have released the two sides and then pull back on the bonnet catch it should open, go and have another go with your torch.

Yes the pins have popped at the sides of the service bonnet, the 'cenre pin' is not moving when opening the lock.

Just want make sure your clear. Turning the key does not open the bonnet. Turning the key pops a lever next to the lock. You then pullthis popped lever to open the service bonnet. On mine when you turn the key the lever does not spring up. I have to persuade it out with a screwdriver or key, etc. Is yours doing this toomaybe?

Mine starting doing the same, but I would hit it with the bottom of my fist until it popped open. Lubed the mechanism when the bonnet was next off.

On mine the key only locks or unlocks the actual lever, I never use the key.

There is a button at the bottom of the lever, when pressed the lever pops out and can then be pulled to release the service bonnet, when closed i just push the lever back in and it stays flush until the button is pressed again.

Had this probem on mine - the cable between the lever and the pin had corroded and separated. I managed to open the service bonet by placing electrical tape over the egdes next to the pin to protect the paintwork and used a pair of long nosed pliers to shuffle the pin backwards until it cleared. Electical tape over the hole prevents the pin from engaging however this is only a temporary repair until you get a new cable.

Replacing the cable with the fixed bonnet off is very easy - the only difficult bit is shuffling the pin without scratching the paint !
