MK I versus MKII
Discussion
Hi All,
I never did end up with my Griff last year (share values took a 'wee' bit of a hit!) but I'm now able to go shopping for (what I feel) something a little more refined - a Tuscan (much bigger boot for all my bags, too).
Not knowing much about the MKI or MKII Tuscans (apart from some of the external changes) I'm wondering if a MKII is worth the extra spend?
So, what's really changed?
Thanks everso,
MrsDTC.

looking at the finishing touch
i have seen a lot of tuscan's before buying mine
mk1's and mk2's
a lot of cars had bad linings
door's, bonnets, not closing windows etc (also T2's with the russian build)
i definitly have a good example and without the cat and with good springs/tyres i would be surprised if the tuscan 2 is much better car.

I am going to open up a can of worms here, but having owned 3 tuscans, all i can say is the MK2 is 100% improvement on the MK1, the russian did make sure the cars were put together better.
Totally agree. I'm on my 3rd Tuscan. First 2 were MK1s and my current MK2 is night and day different in build quality. If you can stretch your budget I would go for a Mk2. Or alternatively look out for the occasion Mk1 with a TVR Power rebuild or 4.3 upgrade.

Need to consider that a lot of the Mk2's had updates from the Sagaris built is so the technology and build quality improved.
However, there is a price to pay and a well looked after Mk1 is easy to maintain.
Why is a MK1 easier to keep that a MK2 ?????????????????????????????????However, there is a price to pay and a well looked after Mk1 is easy to maintain.

I think your find scotsitalian said “easy”, not easier. Both are great cars, IMO, however, the Mk 1 has it on looks. I would buy on condition, not so much if it’s a newer spec car etc.
A good Mk 1 with upgraded suspension will be just as nice to drive as a Mk 2, albeit with slightly quicker steering.
I would buy a well sorted Mk 1 with a TVR power or such like engine rebuild over a Mk 2, I would say for less money to.
At the end of the day, go and drive a few, it’s a nice decision to have to make

Hi Mark, still dont get it,, why is it easy to maintain a mk1 then?????????????????A good Mk 1 with upgraded suspension will be just as nice to drive as a Mk 2, albeit with slightly quicker steering.

TOV!E, Apologies if your confused, I am now
No, I did not infer a Mk 1 was any easier to maintain than a Mk 2, in fact I made no comment on maintaining the Tuscan, but as we are on the subject, so long as you get them serviced regularly, and have a bit of mechanical/electrical knowledge, they are not difficult cars to look after.

Some will be better maintained than others.
A MK1 is rarer I believe, hazarding a guess I would say perhaps 2,000 made. 1,000 still on the road with perhaps only 500 of those being top quality, ie. cosmetics are good as well as negligable CAM wear, inlet/ outlet gaps good and maintained. Always correct warmup procedures etc meaning a sorted car. Ihere of some MK1 engines without rebuilds on 40000 miles and still running fine with no signs of wear.
Of these 500 I would suspect most are loved by their owners and have all the necessary upgrades to make them planted and sorted on the road.
I think there are a few more MK2's about, numbers Im not sure on. So... whats more collectable?
To be honest... would I swap mine or sell it to finance a MK2...? nope! she is staying with me as its one of the 500

Think that would be the other way around, the MK1 was produced for nearly five year's and the MK2 for less than two years.I realy liked my 2000 MK1 although it was a bit under developed and the build quality was not realy as it should have been. My current 2006 MK2 S Targa is very well put together and the six years plus of refinement realy do show.
Just get one that's been looked after and had the necessary up-grades if applicable.
I've found a MKII (vert) for the Mrs...but it's a cat d...
Just panel damage due to ice on the road last Feb during the cold snap. It seems £22k will get the Mrs a non damaged car, however she really likes the colour (women!).
Whats it worth? One owner from new, 30k on the clock. Excellent condition (due to respray I suppose!) Top mechanical order, too. £18K?

Just think how easy it will be to sell on if you have to. I'm sure most buyers will be put off a Cat D registered car and opt for another.Just panel damage due to ice on the road last Feb during the cold snap.
