where's the ecu located on my MK1

Normally in the driver's footwell Rens, above the pedal box. A thumb-screw holds a bracket that secures the ECU box and the main connector needs to be unlocked and removed before you can take the box out,

need to know the colour (x connectors) and the amount of wires coming from my lamda sondes to order a decat chip

Yes, it's located in the driver's footwell. Whether it's secured or not is open to debate. Mine just appears to be wedged in and not actually fixed to anything.

i've found a box really at the back (above the pedalbox)
it's coloured blue and the text on the box is powercontrol technologies
it's not wedge shaped but flat with one big connector going in to it at the bottom
sizes are about 10x15x3 cm's
is that the ecu ?
F...ck broke my back @#$%^&

Hmmm.....mine has a bare metal metal and says MBE on it. What ECU do you guys have?

Mine is an S spec ECU and is definately blue! I can't think of anything else in that area that it could be, immobiliser?

Mine's an S Spec too.
In fact, here's a picture of the standard fit Speed 6 MBE ECU and what's fitted to my car.

Would be interested to know what's been fitted into your car?

That's a later type ECU.

The earlier ones (such as Rens has) have a single connector that looks like this...
