ODB connector - diagnostic Cable
Discussion
I bought an ODB cable on e-bay and then chopped the end off and re-soldered the correct pin out. However , I never got it to work. My understanding is that only a few cars (those destined for Japan IIRC) had the ODB connected to the ECU. Yours is the first I heard off without a 3 pin cable on the drivers side near the fuse box.
Thanks Keith - it was I think becuase TVR were moving towards European certification about the time mine was produced. I think they started to go that way due to the legislation. I phoned str8six who did the recent service and it was mentioned that was the socket he had to use - due to the 3 pin one being there - (but not connected in to the ECU - directly accurate).
It's either that or lift the lid on the ECU cover.

For the future searches on this subject - I found out what the three pin "diagnostic plug" on drivers side of my car is. It is not <Bangs head> a diagnostic plug, although there is no difference to look at! it is a connector for a non existant load leveling mechanism for the headlights. So unsurprisingly no signal eminates to the serial diagnostic software (windmill - there are other posts on that too.).
The OBD pins are 2,3,4 Tx, Rx and Gnd. Rx and Tx might be the other way round - I'll find out tomorrow. There was no colour coding on the one I used this afternoon.
So dear Tivers - if you have a late car and want to view the ECU data it's OBD all the way.
A floppy disk power connnection socket pins soldered to the ends of a cable work a treat. Connected up the same way as the Cerbera wiring about which there are quite a few posts and diagrams.
Pics of the socket I used today in case anyone is as confussed about this as I was.

Anthony,
I've been trying to get any information on the levelling mechanism so anything you can let me know would be appreciated. I don't think it's so much a levelling mechanism, more an adjustment to control the up/down of the light as if you had a heavy load in the boot IYSWIM. The electronics are on the dip beam headlight but I've not found any wiring into the cabin - have you now found this? What colour wires have you found?

Left to right,
Blue with a brown stripe, Blue, Off Pink - with the connector held the same way as the cerbera diagram - broadest section uppermost - wasted section lowermost - from the perspective of female pin holes facing you.
Bear in mind my car is 2005. I have discovered that much of the "common advice" does not apply to my car. e.g. the dash ECU does not have ribbons, the wiring is different in general. Door motors are different. etc.
Do you think there are load level motors in the light units, just waiting for some electricity to spring them into life? I have never looked I must say.
?? let us know
