A bit of buying advice needed

ive decided to go for a Tuscan now, i was 99% sure beforehand and did think about a Cerb(briefly) but i just much prefer the looks of the Tuscan, naturally ive been scouring the classifieds,Autotrader and Ebay for a while, there was one i liked alot, it was a dark grey 51 reg S but was quite an old advert on here and has now been removed, there is also the green/purple looking S on Ebay.
my budget is £17k max and for that i would like to get one thats had a rebuild post 2004?, i believe this ironed out alot of issues?, and also has A/C as im told this is a welcomed luxuary, especially in summer while stuck in traffic, is £17k an un realistic price for a rebuilt example?, and my other question is how much difference in actual power is there between the standard and the S?, would love an S if i could find one for the money but i would rather buy a good normal one than a average S, would the de cat and Eprom chip upgrade put a regular one on even terms with an S?.finally when i got my Griff a few years ago i used Rob Ingleby to do an inspection prior to buying, i was pleased with my car and was thinking of using him again, especially if i bought private, thanks in advance for any advice.

Like others have said before on here, buy on condition, not age, mileage etc. Yes, if its had a rebuild, by the likes of Power, St8 6 etc, then that will give you more piece of mind, and its unlikely you’re have engine woes.
An S I believe makes around 20 to 30 bhp more, slightly bigger brakes, and poss a CR gearbox? Personally I prefer the standard “arse” over the S. If you had a choice between a Really nice “standard” and an average S, go for standard, besides, you can always upgrade later to a 4.3
A/C, mine does not have it, as when its warm/hot, I take the roof off. If its too hot [ not often here!! ] windows down, rear screen out gives plenty of air flow through the cabin. Stuck in traffic though, I guess A/C is nice, but I am not bothered about it myself.
De cat is well worth it IMO, so long as you have a friendly MOT man, although some just about get through with a de cat MOT time. Your get more torque with the de cat, not really any more power, well not that you’d notice, it just de-restricts the engine, especially in the mid range.

thanks for the advice, the de cat issue with an MOT wouldnt be too much of an issue with me a good friend does MOTs and im sure he would let me off a few Db over, i quite like the S back end for some reason i prefer the lights all on the back as oposed to the indicators in the targa section, would love to do the 4.3 upgrade but it would only be something i could justify if the engine had gone already, havent driven an S6 engined TVR yet only ones i have driven are the Griff 500 i had a while ago and have driven a Cerb 4.5, i guess the S6 is much revvier than the V8s?.Like others have said before on here, buy on condition, not age, mileage etc. Yes, if its had a rebuild, by the likes of Power, St8 6 etc, then that will give you more piece of mind, and its unlikely you’re have engine woes.

Is the S you refer to on ebay the one being sold by Mark Campbell ?
theres a few ive seen and thought that looks good but then theres no mention of a rebuild, or there are ones that do sound mechanically good but are in a colour im not fond of, buying a TVR is definatly a patience thing,finding the right one is important.youre right the one on E bay is the Mark Campbell one, it certainly looks good but im unsure on the cars history, theres not much mention of anything in the ad.I'm in a similar position to you, looking for the same car and similar budget but not yet found anything I'd buy.
