Mk 1 Pioneer Stereo – tape deck problem

I use my tape deck for an adaptor for my mp3 player.

All was good but recently during playback it ‘looses’ sound and then a couple of seconds later the display goes totally blank.

If I press the ‘source’ button the screen comes back on and it switches to radio/cd, if I press it again it goes back to tape, all is fine and it plays from the mp3 player again.

Then few minutes/seconds later exactly the same thing happens. Only pattern I can think of is it driving knocks affecting it.

I would really rather not change the headset yet as current setup matches car nicely and does me fine – would rather spend my pennies on speakers.

This happened to anyone else?

I have checked and cleaned the front fascia connectors – no difference.

would suggest the tape deck head needs adjusted. As it's a unit out job to do you may as well replace the head unit to a modern one anyway.

Whoever originally specced the car must have been a peasant...not upgrading the tape deck head unit to a CD player!!!

Grr....was hoping to avoid doing this - other stuff I would rather spend my time/money on.

Anyone recommend a headunit that 'fits in' with the Tuscan - I did like the way the standard one was matt silver with display that matched the cars.

actually just re read your post and it might just be a power fault. Loose connection at the back??
