Pedal Box questions.....
Discussion
Just been attempting to free up the accelerator pedal as its only returning very slowly to position (making for some interesting gear changes.)
Can anyone tell me:
1 – What actually forces the accelerator pedal to ‘decelerate’ - ? I cannot see any springs etc. Is there some type of spring loading out of sight? It cannot just be the accelerator cable ‘pushing’ can it? After a liberal spray of WD40 its still not easily returning – is there anything else I can do?
2 – I think I have an old style accelerator cable and I can see how it will eventually wear out as it bends all the time. I carry a new style one in the boot. Should I change it now or wait until the old one breaks?
3 – Behind my clutch pedal and accelerator pedal there is an adjustable screw. How do you know where this should be adjusted to? My clutch one has a rubber stopper on it – I assume that the accelerator one should also have a stopper – is it worth me sourcing one?
Thanks in advance people!

1/ Spring between the throttle banksCan anyone tell me:

2/ Would be adviseable if you ar having problems.
3/ Think both mine have a rubber stopped. Set the accelerator one so it will fully open. Not sure with the clutch I marked mine before removal.

Spring between the throttle banks
So it is effectively the throttle cable pushing the pedal back. That does not seem to be 'mechanically efficient'!!
I think I will be changing the throttle cable and carrying the old one as my spare!
Is it a big job?

Not difficult just a bit awkward. See here http://www.varleyhyd.com/fj062.asp#Throttle%20cabl...
Mentioned this recently but corrosion can develope on the pedal pivot bushings if the car has sat foor some time.
This a WD40 and work it loose exercise.
This can make the pedal slow to return and sometimes make the pedal stick down
which can result in you also needing change your pants as well.

Just read the throttle cable guide - more work than I was anticipating (and I have no time or garage!). Before I embark on this to find it does not solve the problem do you reckon it will make the difference? This a WD40 and work it loose exercise.

Throttle is an hour job. New style cable requires new style bracket and there is also an anti stop bracket to stop pedal coming back past vertical and getting stuck. Just did mine at the weekend. Easy enough, just put new cable in the bracket first then hook into pedal clip, then do the throttle body end. You will see from how spring works and the leverage points the tension put on spring pulls cable back and thus the pedal. Mine feels 200% better since fitting and piece of mind about not getting pedal stuck open, wish I had done it sooner.
Pm me and if near Alton pop over and we can go through it.

Point #3. Be careful adjusting the nuts! mine were set wrong, Str8six re-set my welly pedal on the service. Basically the throttle can stick open Can anyone tell me:

Shep
How can it do that ??? Shep
I have played with the pedal a fiar bit without the cover on (ie no stopper) and cannot see how it could jam open - even when fully pressed down.
On the plus side mine seems to be loosening up.
Pity I broke the speedo last night
