Mk 1 Speedo pod fit is terrible - any ideas?

Finally fixed my speedo and LCD screen and have been attempting to put everything neatly back together.

My problem is now that the 'leather' pod upper and lower don't actually seem to fit the car.

The lower section does not want to sit nicely behind the metal speedo housing so I have an unsightly gap round the edge and the upper housing actually seems to be a different shape to the top of the speedo so it keeps 'popping' out to leave you looking at the glue covered edges.

If I was confident the LCD screen would never need replacing I would glue everything in....but I'm not.

I cannot believe there seems to be nothing to pull the sections towards the speedo so they remain tucked behind them!

Anyone any ideas? I will attempt to get some photos up of what I mean.

I had the same problem when I removed and refitted mine. I simply glued it back on. I have had to remove it a couple of times and just restuck it again. It means removing the old glue but not really a problem.

This is typically kit car fitting!
Its same at every Tuscan! So fix it with glue and try to
forget this problem. There is no (better) way to change this mounting!

Any recommended glue??

I have a stash of Sikaflex 291 (black, rubbery and used in boats - bought to fix rear windscreen seal) - would that do the job?

Suppose its better being a 'rubbery' type glue as opposed to a hard superglue style?

Would look much better all fitted correctly.

Yes it would, along with most of the rest of the car!

I used epoxy on mine last time and it's lasted ok. It was fixed with silicon when the factory repaired it for me in '03 but was a bit of a mess.

I used araldite. Just use it sparingly in case you need to remove it again. It is easy to remove the glue if needed and reglue again.

The glue is needed around the edges where the leather fits into the back of the metal speedo surround.

You may have a 'kit car' but I have a hand built British sports car.....kit car indeed.
My pod fits perfectly so there NOT all the same.
