Do you tuscan owners suffer the same fate as the Cerbs, in that the outriggers tend to decay after several years pretty much no matter how well you look after them? or is it just limited to the Cerb, Griff, Chimp in the way the body is mounted to the chassis?

Just wondering.

Cheers

Probably too early to tell, but powder coating did improve on later cars.

However, I would say that if you look after a Chim or anything else TVR wise, it will be little or no problem. The current crop of MOT failures are the way they are because some owners have the idea that plastic cars don't rust they don't take the time to clean the underside as frequently as required....all IMHO of course.

I recently imported some sportscars from the UK and I noticed that corrosion is a bigger problem in the UK that in Europe. In the UK they use more salt on the road or in a different combination. My low milage MK 1 Tuscan (2003 model) was rusting like hell. All the bolts and nuts were gone and the chassis had some severe rust in many places. I noticed the some problem with Lotus Elises and MG TF's. In Europe you do not see it in this extreme way. Why??

my tuscan has never been waxoyled and it shows! Currently in the process of stripping all the powerder coating off the chasis and repainting with zinc based paint. There is a fair amount of surface rust on the outriggers but it isnt that bad. Just needs some TLC over winter.

Judging by the way my car turned into a moving salt pillar in about 400 miles of driving on the other side of the Channel on a cold but clear and dry day, I do have some sort of idea why. yes

Indeed, Nimag said that if a TVR chassis is still solid when it gets over here, you won't have a lot of problems keeping it that way...

Totally agree. My old Chim was a 97 model (sold last year) and I owned her for 4 years. The chassis was treated twice a year (stripped and waxoiled) and didn't even have a hint of surface rust. Obviously without taking the body off it was impossible to see the tops of the outriggers but it was as solid as can be!

Do you just shoot with water? Or quite literally clean it with a sponge?

I use a Gilmour gun with suds then spray off with water...

Its just part of servicing. Regular chassis cleaning combined with epoxy paint and waxoil or dintrol or some such needs to be done. TVR powder coat was ste. I was disappointed recently to discover that my road springs were rusting through. One had broken. They were Nitrons but I must point out they were fitted 7 years ago and I have driven in salt st and all Britain offers. I am going for Eibach springs and Dulford have done a nice job of cleaning up the chassis which had only surface rust despite the powder coat being rubbish.
