Who was out on the roads today???

Hi,

first blat out for 3 weeks, god it felt good.Roads still a tad greasy so control on the loud pedal, Tuscs Rule!!

1st time out since June for me when (poorly) Tuscan came back on a lorry from France.
Sat in the garage for 6 months (Car, not me) while i made up my mind what do do with it and eventually took it to Tvr power.
Fetched it back on a trailer yesterday and had first run out today..

The verdict................running superbly. Need to get a thou miles done to run it in and serviced before the spring now.

Been out today in and around london, was the first day that the running temps where good. Been using the tuscan every weekend since christmas but it's been bloom'in cold!

Me too. Only got it on Friday, and put 200 miles on it yesterday in the name of research

Took it gently as the roads weren't all dry, but boy did it go. Just need to work out why it tramlines and darts about on uneven surfaces as it is quite unnerving. Reading other posts, I guess it's probably the geo needs to be done (although it was done fairly recently......)

Got it home and gave it a good wash and polish.

Has it recently had new tyres? New boots can have a v adverse effect on handling while they bed in .

No, but the front tyres are spray on jobs (225/35 section Goodyears Potenza SO-2)with rounded sidewalls as opposed to more upright which I suspect won't help (45 section might be better).

Didin't get time yesterday to finsh all of my little jobs, and so only checked the tyre pressures tonight. Fronts were 35 and 42 PSI, and rears 40 and 41 Looks like they were over inflated for winter storage and were never put back. Might explain the handling issues but will need to go and do some more research.....

There's your problem !!!

I did exactly the same as you when I bought mine ... drove back over 200 miles without checking tyre pressures, got it well into the second half of the speedo (on M6 toll road) as well and it was a very scary journey. Tyre pressures varied between 21 and 38 psi but all sorted once corrected to 26 !!

As you say, I went and did some "serious research" and the tramlining almost completely gone now, pressures at 23/25 f/r. I see you say 26, so I'll play around a bit and see what works

Only problem now is vibration at just under the lepton; I didn't want to drive through to see if it went, but feels like an unbalanced wheel. Wasn't there at lower speeds so I hope not a nadgered wheel.

I never realised how much fun research could be!

These cars are extremely sensitive to tyre pressures, type, tread etc.
If you need wheels balancing ask for an alignment check aswell and try the new setting, keep going back until they are either sick of the sight of you and tell you to bugger off, or have found the best setting/result for your car.
Worth taking some time over.
Also worth upgrading dampers, can make a big difference... Its just spend spend spend

Aye - make sure you invest in a decent gauge - don't rely on the one in the garage. Just 2psi can make a very noticeable difference ! 26 all round suits me, but thats on 255's all round. Every tyre make, size, (and driving style) will be slightly different.

As you say, the fun part is experimentation - and by the time you've got it 'just right' it will probably need new tyres anyway .....
