Removing standard exhaust cans

Well for my birthday i've treated myself to a new set of load carbon can co cans. Got the car in the air removed both clamps (one was hanging on due to snapping) gave the cans a good going over with WD40, left it for an hour then started to release the edges of the pipe to remove. Now this is where the nightmare started, i've worked all the way around slightly bending the ends out-wards and then worked in some more WD40 after about 3 hrs of doing this the cans still are solid as rock. Have given up for now but will attack them again next weekend.

Anyone got any tips on how to make this process easier? Looks like the cans have never been removed in nearly 10 years. Mr C

With mine I just grabbed the ends of the can and pulled whilst gently wiggling them up and down left and right, after a while they got looser and you could do little circular motions.

I had the same trouble....


I got a touch annoyed with it and found a 3' 2" x 2" bit of timber, thread it under the car to the back edge of the sticking can, hammered the bd off with a lump hammer.

Got an ever so slight dent in the standard can, but they are in the garage as spares and to be honest if i ever put them back on you wouldn't see the small dent.

Best thing you can do, is pop down Quick Fit, stick a 'score' in someones 'sky rocket' to do it for you using new clamps to fix.
