Starting Voltage Issue

Hi guys,

I have recently solved my charging issue (main fuse corrosion) and I thought the starting issue was linked.

here is the problem I get.

Get in, turn fuel pump on (it primes fine....god I love that noise), turn on ignition. It will crank and I sometimes get a "8v Error" on the pod, it will sometimes catch and start, other times it will act as if the battery is flat (ie that chug chug noise).

If I get the car going and stop it dosnt matter if I have driven 10 or 100 miles it may not start again and act as if the battery is flat (quite embarrising if at the petrol station).

I have just taken the battery to the place I bought it from (as its only a year old) and they have confirmed that its ok.

So my question is what can possibly cause this? I am thinking its a bad connection as it dosnt do it all the time. Or could it be the starter motor?

Any ideas of where to check would be great.

Can anyone show me where the main fuse is in footwell? Ta, Mr C

Try these:-

1. Engine to chassis earth condition behind wheel on RH side


2. Body earth in back of battery box behind LH wheel


3. Earth passenger footwell at bottom right of well. to the top right of 4. photo

4. Main fuse in passenger footwell


5. Starter motor

this problems sounds very similar to the problem i had with mine recently and all seemed solved by fitting a new battery.

I had the symptoms you describe, would 'just' about start in the mornings but often i would get a low voltage warning when cranking, then if the engine was warm it would not start again, unless I left it to cool for 10 or 15 mins. when cranking when hot was like i had a dead battery or lazy starter.

had the problem since i had the engine rebuild, i think it must have been that becasue the car was not used for nearly 2 months whilst engine work was being done, it killed the battery. All seems good now, starts on the button hot or cold.
