How far do your windows drop?

Having some trouble with my window encoders (who doesn't).......They seem to be working OK after some fettling but I'm not sure if the amount the glass drops during the door opening cycle is normal, it seems excessive to me. When door open button is pressed they drop about half way (4") before the door release solenoid clicks. When you use the window switch each click gives a much smaller increment so it doesn't need to drop that far when you open the door.

What is normal? I looked at a load of cars while searching for mine but my memory is such, I can't now recall what they all did......

Is there a way of resetting them or changing the amount of movement? Any help appreciated.

Tim they sound fine they drop quite a bit before opening 4 inches is about the same as mine

Agreed, 4" is excessive but sounds normal. If it bothers you it might be worth investigating Sagaris encoders as they only drop the window an inch or so.

Half way down sounds normal to me too... Agree that I dont see why they have to drop so much, but....!

I wouldnt bother changing anything. If they start playing up, then change them, but if they work OK, I would suggest to let them be!

About 4" doesn't seem excessive to me. Always seems like a lifetime when you want them to hurry up mind

Well - reaching for some wood to touch - I can't say I have.

They have their "quirks" - I'll grant you. Primarily if you remove and reinstall the battery (or I suspect if you flatten battery) the alarm/imobiliser triggers on mine.

The consequence is that because I leave the windows down in the garage it's not uncommon to have fooled the encoders. They think the windows must be up, when of course they are down. So the door opening still takes the time delay that would be required for the window to drop.

Does that all make sense!

I have heard that the cure is to wind the window from one extreme to the other, notch by notch. Then it'll be cured.

Of course somebody about five years ago could have been pulling my plonker and I've just been slavishly acting on this like a dummy ever since. Either way - they sort themselves out after the inital confusion!
