Cam cover gasket

I have read the previous posts on this and wondered how the guys who have th RG Viton one are getting on with it. Is it durable etc and do the HT leads stay in ok as I have heard they can be forced out due to the 3mm thickness? Think I have a leak in the sealant and can't be bothered with the black stuff anymore.

Also I read that you can get one from Clever Trevor. Has anyone got this?

Good on paper but a little tough in practice.

You really need to stick it down well to either the cover or the head (cover is better option I guess). And I mean stick it down. Trouble is when you apply pressure the darned thing oozes out between the bolts...gets softer and expands and throws out a small loop inward or outward. First you know is a very smokey engine bay !

RG say they use evostick. Cant see that lasting with the excessive head above the ex manifold.
I tried silicone...hopeless ! Its still creeps.

Ended up making a metal rod "web" that runs the centre line all around the cover (lots of bending required) and I siliconed that to the cover while clamped to a piece of board. Then I siliconed the RG gasket to that and againt clamped. The rod when clamped presses very locally and traps the gasket in place. Then when cured, bolted it down dry to the engine. So its a kind of re-inforced version of what RG sell. Seals a treat but what a work up. Almost gave up at one point.

My advice...spend the money on somethng else

I've got this fitted but must have done barely 400 miles since my service last June, fine so far, but will post on here if there is any issues, I will keep an eye on it this summer when I plan to actually drive it!!

I think Nightrider mentioned he used a paper gasket due to issues with the RG one?

i have a rubber gasket on mine and i just bolted it on with both surfaces clean no leaks 3k on very pleased with it

No problem with plug leads btw
Measured it up and there is a good 5mm engagement of plugs metal tip into metal cap inside the rubber body
The rg gasket is about 4mm thick

I have one on mine (RG supplied) - Jason from St8Six fitted it at my last service.
He tells me that they shoud come with slightly longer studs for the cam cover as it is a meaty old gasket. He said he was being picky as an engineer would but no problems with the original studs.
I am not really sure if it makes any difference to anything (supposed to supress cold engine noise?) but it does feel a well made bit of kit in the hands.
