I have now had my 2004 T350 for nearly 3 years and love it to bits. It has had no expense spared on it and is in great condition with approx 38k miles on the clock.

Due to an impending new house purchase I am wanting to free up some cash and am contemplating selling it and replacing it with a cheaper Mk1 Tuscan (poss Cat D) that I will then keep for a number of years, but i'm worried that the mk1 Tuscan might feel like a backwards step from the T350 and that the 38k miles on the clock of my T350 may scare people off.

Has anyone made the switch from a T350 (or Tam) to a mk1 Tuscan and got any views? also i'm slightly worried that I will be going back a bit and that the mk1 Tuscan may be quite a bit more unreliable than my almost perfect T350 which I have spent thousands on getting to a state where all consumables (rad, clutch/slave, brakes, suspension etc..) have all been replaced or upgraded.

The few thousand that I free up for the house purchase could easily be needed for an engine rebuild which then makes me wonder if I will actually be any better off...

Any advice?

Bad idea..sure you would find a Mk1 Tuscan more skittish on the road with the faster steering rack...Buy a cheaper house.

Sounds like you're going for the most expensive house possible. Don't. There is nothing more crap than having to do a full financial assessment every time you want to buy something because all your money goes on the mortgage. Get a smaller house and enjoy life. I know too many people with big houses who haven't got a pot to p1ss in. They're miserable.

My mates have nice places, mine is crap but I can pay the mortgage from my change jar. Now that's a good feeling when you hear of all the redundancies being banded around.
I have to agree that life is for living and not just for sitting inside the four expensive walls that will take most of our working life to pay off!
T350 + house = smile
Compromise car + big expensive house = cry

Honestly not going for anything too expensive but the way the mortgage Market is currently an extra £5-10k on the deposit makes such a big difference to the interest rate and could save me £300 a month in interest. Over a 3 yr fixed term this is £10k which I could then spend on the car...

That's my thinking but I guess in asking the question deep down I know that I have got the t350 to how I want it (albeit with 38k miles as I enjoy it so much and this seems to put people off) but I know that I could easily have to spend another £5k+ getting a mk1 Tuscan to how I want it.

It was the mk1 Tuscan that got me interested in TVR's when at uni I used to see a famous athlete driving around in his. I very nearly bought it off him 2 yrs later but decided it was out of my price range and bought a BM. When I got bored of the BM I knew I had to have a tvr but by then I had fallen in love with the t350. There is still a place in my heart for the Tuscan though and hence why I am thinking what I am thinking.

Would I really feel the mk1 Tuscan is such a backward step from the t350? Even a well setup one?

I went from a T350 to a Tuscan and i have no regrets so far.
Bigger car so more leg and arm room has a boot and you can remove the roof.
Found it slightly quicker than the 350 but the 350 was more direct in the steering and a firmer ride.
I find the suspension on the Tuscan similiar to my old chim abit wobbely but cushions the road well.
But for looks and exhaust note i think the T350 has the edge but thats a personal thing.
My Tuscan was dearer than the T350. wink

You may end up like a few other on here including myself.
My engine went pop after 34 miles so I ended up spending an absolute large amount of .....................pocket money (honest Wife) on new engine, throttle bodies, shocks and springs, diff mount, engine mount, slave cylinder, door ecu, window ecu, new battery, battery brain, new alloys, pepper grill, front end respray, bla, bla, bla,
and then I wrote her off

You may find yourself extremely pissed if you let your P&J go and find your spending even more. Worse still dont have the cash to keep your Tuscan on the road.

Dont get me wrong though. I loved my Mk1 Tuscan and there are some very good looking cars on the market right now at very atractive prices.
If you have to then be very careful and get the target car checked out thoroughly.

Good luck which ever way you decide to go.
Difficult position.

The answer to that one is simple. Go and get a loan for £10k and use it as a deposit. Even at 10% interest it is only going to cost you a couple of grand interest so you'll be £10-£2k= £8k better off and you'll keep your car. There must be a better option than the one you are suggesting.

Hi - I had a T350 a few years ago, dumbly sold it when the factory went down and eventually worked my way back in with a nice Mk1 Tuscan S.
It's true what other have said: the Tuscan (well, the S I have) is punchier but a bit more skittish. I have just had Nitrons fitted which on default settings are firmer which is a bit more T350 like - however, I've yet to push it to find limits etc so cannot comment on the magnitude of the handling improvement.
The T350 looks great but the Tuscan has a oomph factor, esp the S with the big bore motor, brake kit etc. It's also a bit evil... which is surely a good thing.

IMO avoid Cat D's and keep the T350 you have personally developed into your own car. DO NOT sell it.

Just what I was going to suggest. Kinda like remortgaging your car smile
