windows 7 doesn't accept diagnostic software

If you are keen to replace your laptop please make sure that you keep your old one with XP software (or older): the diagnostic software doesn't run on the new windows 7, at least not on my new Toshiba. It has something to do with 64 bits versus 32...
If anyone knows a solution, please share...

Windows 7 comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. You would only install 64-bit if your laptop supported it.

I'm presuming the software is 32-bit. However, most 32-bit applications will still run under 64-bit Windows.

that was my reasoning as well. but windows refuses to accept the software and asks for a 64 bit version.

It's a bit of a long-winded way around it, but you could try installing Linux to a USB Memory Stick which saves you from having to install it to your hard drive (it will run straight from the memory stick; I use Ubuntu). You then install a program called Wine which is, in effect, a Windows emulator and then run the ECU software from there. I've gotten it to work really well this way.

Hope you find an easier workaround!

Windows 7 Pro & Ultimate have an XP mode.

You can also try running the file in legacy mode.

Will probably work in an XP compatibility mode - just right click on the TVRDIAGNOSTIC.exe file, select the compatibility tab, tick the Compatibility box, and select one of the XP modes. Haven't tried it personally as I still have an XP laptop!

thanks guys for all the tips: so far the compatibility mode doesn't work, however hard I tried. but the version of T350 Al works! It takes somne downloading, but it's cheaper than buying an old XP laptop. It needs some PC savvyness, but after a lot of fiddeling teh TVr software started. Unfortunately my car is now in service so I have to try it live later.
