Are battery failures a common problem?
I've had my car on a trickle charger for 4 months, but it won't start now??

Battery's tend to wear. even when you use th car every day a battery lasts max about 5 years
How old is it ?

Chargers can be bought in different quality's and can wear down the battery
keeping the car on the alarm while parked in garage (even on trickle charger) can cause problems.

always start and drive the car once a month. not only for battery but also for brakes and driveline
