DETAILED TUSCAN

Just had my Tuscan detailed. Had it for a month and was getting depressed with the swirl marks, oxidation, scuffs, scratches etc. Never used a detailer before but can now highly recommend Jay from Gleaming Kleen. His attention to detail and skills are amazing. Really chuffed with the result but now reluctant to take it out in case it gets dirty!

Wow that looks brand new. My car has a few swirls/small scratches. What does it cost to have someone to do this?

Its £35/ hour and mine took 3 days as it was a mess. But I believe normally it takes 2 days so around £500.

That is stunning, money extremly well spent.

I just last Friday 14th May, got my first polisher for my Birthday. A kestrel DAS 6. I have done a bit on my mondeo as a practice before I set about the tuscan. Its easier than I thought, although I wouldn't like to use a abrasive polisher for fear of damaging paint. I also got a snow foamer, how cool are they :-) The pics below are the passenger door before and after.

Excellent results ... I wished I had the confidence to do this. Also with 3 young kids time is tight so prefer to spend what time I do have driving. However bought a snow foam device which will be delivered today so looking forward to using that at the weekend.

Can i ask what polish you used?

really great result. the car looks amazing. Can i ask what, if anything, was done about the inevitable stone chips that accumulate on the front end during the paint correction process? It's crossed my mind to have the Tuscan professionally polished/detailed but would I always be thinking 'shame about the stone chips'?

I think it looks amazing, I take it the scratches and swirls were in the clearcoat, can I ask, is the result permenant ie they gave smoothed the clear and then polished or do the products just fill in the scratches in the clear coat with polish that will eventually wash out? If it's permenant it's something i'd look at doing

Car looks amazing but the inevitable stone chips and the resilience of the finish are my main reservations against having a professional detail performed.

Convince me otherwise!

Monkeybasher, how long does it take to get results like this with the Kestrel? Are we talking hours of elbow grease?

The stone chip situation is actually OK on mine. I'm going to touch up the half a dozen I have

Its permanant however the paint is quite soft (common on black TVR's) and as such no matter how careful I am swirls will be put on over the next 12 months as I wash it but this would need a shorter buff up rather than the intensive treatment it needed

The resilience of the finish has got to be better than when it left TVR when it was new in my opinion

Johnny do you know what products were used? The shine is truly amazing. Your making me feel guilty for ignoring my 2 kids haha, 3 years and the other 8 weeks


I used on the mondeo

3M fine a few times with the yellow pad then
3m ultra fine with the blue pad.
I then protected it with Blackfire wet diamond. I was wondering if wax gave a better finish, very interested to here what was used on yours?

It really is pretty safe when using this stuff with a DA. I started with the ultra fine but it was hardly correcting so went for the fine. The door took about 1.5 hours maybe longer, I loose track of time, but it was bad. One pass makes a big difference then the differences get less and less.
