Can anyone give me a check list of things to do/check to try and resolve the problem of my passenger side window not working - it's stuck half open. I'd like to try and resolve it myself rather than taking it to a specialist but I'm not sure where to begin.

I'm convinced it's due to driving through torrential rain enroute to and from Le Mans last week so I took off the door panel and had a hair dryer on pointing at the electrical connections for about 30 mins - no change.

The door control mechanism has also developed a 5 - 10 second delay from pushing the button to the door opening. The two must be related. I had this problem a year or so ago but it simply began working again of it's own accord

Any help much appreciated

WhyTwo,

The door control boxes are located in the middle of the dashboard, you need to remove the centre console. You could try swapping them over to check if it's that first?

Try the door/body electrical connector. It's prone to getting wet in very heavy rain and screwing things up. It's located by the upper door hinge and is a real pain to undo and you'll need either tiny but strong hands or some very long nosed pliers.

this sound like a window encoder fault. take the dooe panel of and on the window motor there is a small pcb about 10mm wide by 25mm long held on with a very small grub screw. remove this and give it a clean and refit, try the window again, if this doesnt work you will need a new encoder. theres one in parts for sale http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/classifieds/1778508.h... or from clvor trevor http://www.clever-trevor.net/part/288/window-encod... hope this helps
cheers andy

Cheers for the heads up Andy. Think that'll be my first action.

My friend who saw you down in Le Manns, said that you had some big lard pot in the passenger seat.
Maybe he's sat on something and broken it?

yep
like andy said, it sounds like the window encoder
had the same symptoms
switch the encoder from right to left and look if its working.

Ah my stalker, morning! I'll pass your comments onto Dazza and he'll now be on the case to expose your true identity...

I'll do that on Saturday, in the meantime I can still get out in the glorious sunshine with the roof off I just can't park the car and leave it anywhere - could be a lot worse drivingbiggrin
