I posted on here recently with regards to running problems on my Tuscan. Turns out it was the coil pack which has now been replaced.

I mentioned to 'The Garage' that the other day when driving along my car dumped what looked like a load of molten metal on the A31. So he said he would have a look at my cats.

Had a call this morning to say they have both blown on the exhaust side frown

So what to do?

I already have CCCs on the vehicle, but have retained the original cans and they are in the garage.

Do I by second hand cats from somewhere? Does anyone have any spare?

Do I buy new ones? where would be the best/ cheapest place?

Do I de-cat? where is the best place to buy these? will it be too noisey? will I get through an MOT? anyone have any spare they dont want?

argh... help!

I recently bought some 'copy cats' do a search and you will find them, they were about £240

I have had the car decatted with empty cans and I did not like it, low on torque and very loud. I did not clean them out but have heard it is not a nice job at all, avoid.

If you are happy to work on your car then it is a job you can do to swap.

Why not try the decat route, best place to get them from is NTEL. As you have CCC's and standard cans you could see which you like better.
I have an S spec engine that I had the knackered cats knocked out and had CCC's fitted, It was too raspy. I now have cats and CCC's which isn't quite loud enough. I think a decat with standard cans is the way to go. I also have a chip from TVR Power which on a standard engine, with decats should get through the MOT.
There are some cats for sale in the classifieds but they are for an S spec engine which are probably a different diameter to yours. Might be worth checking!

I am thinking about the de-cat route but am wondering whether the additonal cost is worth it.

I have CCCs on at the moment and standard cans in the garage. Trouble is the standard cans in the garage are sleeved so perhaps it will be to loud with either can.

Also I'm guessing I will have to buy a TVR Power chip or something to get it through the MOT at some point and I have concerns as to whether it will definately pass the MOT even with this chip.

I saw those cats you refer to in the classifieds, does anyone know if they will fit?

Decat with sleeved cans is very loud. I think decat and half sleeved standard cans would be about right.

Re the Power decat chip, mine wouldn't get through the test with it. I ended up buying some of the cheap 120 quid each cats from ebay which I just put in for the test and then take back out again. I wouldn't want to run with them in for any length of time as the internals do look like they cost 120 quid.

I'd rather not have them blow either way when on the car, just in case. I also prefer the extra power from being decatted tbh. smile

You will lose torque though, does this happen to everyone?

Not according to the dyno maps on Power's site, or the way my car feels.

Is there not a half de-cat pipe or similar that can be purchased?

Something that would give more noise but when used with CCCs would not be offensive and also have a good chance of getting through an mot with a power chip or something?

Im still undecided to replace the original CATS or try and go de-catted... need to make a decision soonish as wont get the car back until I do!

Flintstone I sent you a mail regarding your CATS? did you get it?

I think Power and a couple of the other parts suppliers can provide sports cats, ie cats with fewer cells and less restriction.

I will look at the sleeved cans in the garage when I get back tonight and see if there is anyway of removing the sleeves, if so, perhaps I can consider De-cat as an option as found a pair on TVR Car Parts for £175.00

I saw some sports cats on the Racing Green website but not seen them anywhere else.
