Mileage Readout

My dash display is acting up a bit just now.It was fine last summer, then went blank in the winter,now it's got a few "dead" lines on it. One of which goes straight through the mileage. Is there another way to read the mileage, because my MOT is due? I'm hoping some plug wiggling and cleaning will help.
